The issue with AI isn't just that it's bad, AI will get better and better at mimicking intelligence
The issue is that retards think it IS intelligence and nobody who wants to use it will be creative enough to make an interesting game

Why would I trust that someone who dislikes their work so much that they want a machine to take over and do it, would do a good job at it?

people see it as something to offload work onto rather than a tool that works alongside a person, that's really the biggest problem here. as a result, it's overhyped, corporations are cashing in on the marketed and inflated product promises, and it works as a great smokescreen for a faltering economy (in what "prosperous" economy do we have mass layoffs at the scale we've been seeing since the start of the year and up to this point?). i hope to god this fucking bubble pops soon. it doesn't mean AI ends, it means we hit a performance plateau where we can actually start building an economy with it as a tool, not an agent.

AI will be very useful to do grunt work. (like filling your game map with nature and city buildings fluff, making texure and geometry with a single click)
But the actual gameplay set pieces will always be manual, cuz "AI" in the end is just a randomizer of assets.

Talented devs will be able to make bigger/better games, but we will also be swarmed by a order of magnitude more asset flips AI edition.

you know you say that but it seems most of the games made that way are not currently profitable. if anything, that approach is turning out to be costly for investors. nowadays they can only really seem to get away with copious outsourcing and shitty management when they're making remakes of older games that fans will buy regardless how sloppy they are, like the oblivion and silent hill remakes. aside from that, very few big industry players use the "just use unreal and lay everyone off lol" approach successfully. even blizzard and CDPR lost all their talent and prestige by being just too shitty to work for

I used to do web dev before the AI boom and most of my time was spent fixing shitty jeetcode
It's really not as simple as "lol just fix the small issues" because in order to fix anything you first need to understand what is happening
Neither AI nor Indians comprehend the code they write so it becomes doubly frustrating to try and decipher what they've done

Autocomplete will not make your code less stinky, all it does is follow patterns already laid out by the one who writes the code; if you write shit intelisense will give you shit suggestions. The other anon is right, if you try to use LLM's to offload your workload you are going to end up with shit.

the problem is less that it does it wrong and more than the more you vibe code the more you are completely disassociated from the code and how it works until its just a mountain of shit.

the real point of ai is to bring indians up to the level of an average white/asian intelligence so they can be brought in in massive numbers to live in squalor and worship the company they work for while receiving low pay
ai essentially enables slaves to perform the work of the middle class

it's not going to take off in the games industry unless they can make optimized game engines from scratch, otherwise games will still be gatekept by the engines, if you use ai assets players will know, it's death if you use it in the nearby future while it's still ass and the perception is terrible

that's mostly asset related stuff like 3d models and textures. you can easily verify whether a 3d model is good by looking at the tri count and giving it a basic look around in blender or whatever. sometimes they can't even bother doing that, like with the GTA SA remake. it's much harder and time consuming to review code

not that they companies don't outsource programming to india as well, but that tends to be more costly and difficult, and a lot of companies do it despite it not really being effective

>I-it will keep getting better guise!
Yawn. I don't know about the LLM space but for the image gen stuff..
In the image generation side we're stuck with SDXL / Illustrious / PonyXL / NoobNAI for a year now. Flux is supposed to be the next step up but it's ridiculously demanding that using controlnets with it will just slow your rig down, it's not that much better than using SDXL's controlnet with basic 3d renders of the scene you want, depthmap it and then slowly start inpainting the various details (use relevant loras if you need to).

The only thing that people could 'improve' on is just finetuning (which is retardedly expensive, so only few people would bother). And then when they do release their own mixes of models, the rest of the prooompters would just complain it didn't get *their* waifu right, reupload those models somewhere else and such. If I were them I also don't wanna bother releasing free shit only to get complaints.

LLM side of things I guess it's only GPT5 or Qwen 3 of late but... Honestly... I don't really see as much value in LLM's if it doesn't have image recognition. I only use them as pseudo search engine and to 'OCR this content from this logbook into a table so I can copy paste it' or 'sum up the following values from a non-digital source' or 'translate these ching chong to english' lol. Basic tasks. Honestly just get it to be blazing fast for these simple tasks is enough for now.
