Borderlands 3 Plot Recap
I will now summarise the retarded plot of this game so you don't have to play it if you intend to pirate Borderlands 4

>what happened since BL2?
Tales of the Borderlands. Long story short, two retards named Rhys and Vaughn are hunting a Vault Key to aid in Rhys's plan to seize control of Hyperion in the wake of Handsome Jack's death. Additionally, Rhys accidentally put an AI of Handsome Jack into his brain.

They end up uploading Handsome Jack into the main network of Helios (that big H shaped thing in the sky in BL2), and then crash it onto the surface of Pandora-end of Jack. Rhys and Vaughn vanish after entering a vault and opening a mysterious chest.

Pre-Sequel shows us the Crimson Raiders (BL1+BL2 heroes gang) in the aftermath; after they kill Jack's old bodyguard (Athena) Lilith is greeted by someone called "The Watcher", who tells her that "war is coming."

Then the final BL2 DLC happens; some random retard called Colonel Hector attacks Sanctuary. Crimson Raiders win, with the help of Vaughn-who has resurfaced on Pandora as a leader of a bandit gang, and who has also lost his mind. Rhys also returns, and manages to seize control of Atlas.

While the Crimson Raiders won, Sacntuary is destroyed and the Vault Key vanishes. Lilith and the gang decide to stay on Pandora to try find and deal with the rest of the vaults. She sends out invitations to Vault Hunters-the BL3 vault hunters answer.

>the plot of borderlands 3
Insanely, considering its length, fuck all actually happens in BL3.

Here is the entire story;
>The Vault Key is missing, better find it
>There is a new cult called "Children of the Vault"
>They follow two Siren Twins, who can absorb powers of sirens or people or monsters they kill.
>They want to find and open the Great Vault
>The Great Vault contains the Destroyer (BL1 final boss) who is a universe ending threat
>You travel various planets gathering vault keys
>You kill one of the twins
>You hunt down the next one on the homeworld of the Eridians (the guys who built the vault)
>Turns out Pandora IS a Vault
>And the Vault Key is the moon, Elpis
>Moon is activated by the other twin, Pandora is opening
>You kill the other twin+the destroyer again
>Lilith """sacrifices""" herself to seal Elpis to stop it destroying Pandora

>also this shitty annoying siren child called amara is there, Maya (BL2 siren) dies to save her and later Amara gets her powers
>also Tannis is a siren

So opening BL4, everything is sorted with the Vaults, more or less. Great Vault sealed, other vaults found/opened, Lilith """""""""""dead""""""""""""", rest of the gang chilling out around the universe.

I guess you didn't play the DLC

Handsome Jack is dead but his doppelganger Tim is alive, so is Athena; Eridian bullshit saved her. Last we heard of her was that she became CEO of Hyperion. She's CEO during BL3 I think but I don't even remember if we see her.

also this >>720042158. Sanctuary III will probably return because we're going to a new planet, so look forward to more Ava. I miss scooter

This is a paid marketing thread. Borderlands 3 bombed, and most who did play it never finished. Gearbox is afraid 4 won't sell because of how few people know what happens in 3 so they are trying to recap it as a shill technique. Holy fuck this a new low, even for Randy and his pajeet marketing spam.

no, I just find the games fun. hence why in the OP I encourage people to pirate them; denuvo is only there on launch, it always gets removed shortly afterwards.
>>720042507
That's Fiona. She assumedly just resumed her life as a con artist, because
>2nd tales from the borderlands
she shows up in it briefly as a thief, headed for the "gladius nebula." Some speculate that this will be where BL4 takes place. it has like 4 of 5 endings so fuck knows which one is canon, it mostly just results in the death of one of 3 people who aren't fiona.

Since its all we have between BL3 and BL4, the only relevant information seems to be
>Tediore invade Promethea to get the vault key from Rhys (Atlas CEO)
>Fiona (and apparantly some others) are headed for this "Gladius Nebula"
If its revealed that the new BL4 location is in the Gladius Nebula, then we have our answer

BL3 is really interesting as a showcase of how a game can improve pretty much everything about itself (visuals, gunplay, character skills, music etc) compared to its predecessor, but just having obnoxiously dogshit writing instantly torpedo all of that, because EVERYONE hates new the characters.
Anonymous No.720046262

the story of 1 and 2 was self contained and pretty comfy.

the big gap (and content padding; lots of shit crammed into Tales of the Borderlands that become relevant in BL3 despite most not playing) left many feeling very disjointed in BL3. On paper it was a really cool idea;
>huge expansion to the setting
>get to visit lots of cool legendary locations
>sanctuary becomes a cool ship where you can decorate with cool stuff you find while questing+has all the important NPCs there
But in truth it just felt massively bloated and convoluted.

The only planet in BL3 that I really enjoyed other than Pandora was Eden 6 because the Jakobs stuff was cool.

the ending felt weird as fuck. all this buildup to troy backstabbing her and becoming the main big bad, but then
>"troy please! you'll kill me! stop"
>kill troy
>"hehe...now I will become a god!"
>gets absorbed by the destroyer, is now a glorified tongue
>kill her too
>"hooray, that's solved forever"

I honestly wonder how the rest of the Gearbox staff feels about the Borderlands 3 writers. You put that much work in a game, art design, level design, gameplay all turn out the best in your career, and its utterly ruined by some fuckwit deciding people need to sit around listening to idiots yammer for five minutes before updating a quest objective.
Anonymous No.720049757
>>720046074
I think most people actually like the new vault hunters, but don't like that the story effectively ignores their involvement in the plot. Whenever a major event happens, our characters mysteriously vanish from it when we would be there to intervene. So while the game LOVES to play up how "badass" we are, the moment it matters fucking nothing.

What are the chances of New Tales from the Borderlands is not canon or not referenced at all
Anonymous No.720050765 >>720051184
>>720050084
The only way I see it being referenced is if the new planet for BL4 is in the region of space referred to at the end of it.

That being said, the characters from the first one were major characters in BL3; Rhys from Tales of the Borderlands 1 is the main guy for much of Promethea, for example. But my (delusional) hope is
>devs seem to have indicated that they want to go right where BL3 went wrong
>trying to appeal to fans of 1 and 2
so hopefully references will be to a minimum.

I think this is the "new start" for the frenchise, aka the point meant to unite the old+new playerbase. Which'll make it even funnier to laugh at randy if it flops

BL4 seems to have Zane as a major character, and given he was the clear favourite from 3 it does give me a tiny bit of copium. Seems to be that most of the Sancutary III gang have showed up on Kairos anyhow

zane might be my favourite of any individual vault hunter. drone+clone was very fun, plus his lore connection to the previous games made him feel like the natural protag for me anyway

Unlikely, Most of the Borderlands games don't really connect to each other except in broad strokes. You can play of any them in any order and not really be out of the loop for what happened in the other ones. A shame that only Zane may be returning when I didn't mind Flak and Moze is clearly best girl of the new bunch. She has a mech, that was enough for me to give her a go first when the game came out.

About two years ago, I platinumed Borderlands GOTY edition.
I played the hell out of BL2, and basically dropped Pre-Sequel and 3 shortly after starting both. Is it worth revisiting Pre-Sequel or 3, or should I ignore both for 4
Anonymous No.720051991 >>720052179
I'll do an even better summary.

>talk to lilith
>find the vault

That's literally the whole plot, and it's pointless to pretend that it consists of anything more than that. Pic unrelated.
Anonymous No.720052179 >>720052369

I dunno, I always got the feeling that the "big war" is the "break in case of emergency" for the series.

It has been hinted at in BL1, BL2 and BL3 that something big is coming and all the other shit (Handsome Jack, the Twins, etc) is a distraction because everyone needs to work together aainst what's coming.

I'd say all the VH from 3 will return, but Zane will probably be plot relevant while the others will have side missions-like Axton and Salvador did. I hope Brick and Mordecai stay around, always very comfy when they are.
>>720051913
>revisit pre-sequel
If you want, it's short. Not really important though, reading a plot synopsis is fine.
>3
3 is a fun game for sure, but if you want to play BL4 at launch you won't beat 3 in time. Again, you probably don't need much plot beyond as >>720051991 says;
>vaults are around
>you find them
>lilith is """"""dead"""""" at the end of BL3

if on pc, play through them with dialogue skip if you want
but bl4 comes out in like 5 days so idk, you may feel burnt out trying to rush through them. even with dialogue skip, bl3 is a long game. its about 25-30 hours with skipped dialogue. 40 with dialogue
Anonymous No.720052369
>>720052179
My biggest issue with the Pre-Sequel is that it takes several hours before they finally give you a faster means of traveling the large maps in the overworld sections of the game. Never mind the O2 kits and how little that ever mattered in gameplay. At that point just keep the ground pound but dump the arbitrary air limit. The lasers were a cool idea and it's unfortunate they didn't really return but the cryo elemental type did.

Fucking this. Even his powers set him up to be the main antagonist. If he killed his annoying sister during that fight the story would have literally jumped up from at least a 2/10 to a 5/10. Not enough to make up for the absolute dogshit dialogue and constant forced rants you just have to stand there and listen to but at least the twins annoying BS would have a pay off with Troy having enough of the baby shit and cranking things up a notch.
