Any good XCOM clones I can play? I'm getting that XCOM itch again.

Just replay XCOM again since I assume you've played the shit out of JA2 1.13 already.

If you want a real time approach try Aliens: Dark Descent. For turn based i'd go with Ufo Defense lololol.

Troubleshooter is honestly the better XCOM, what with having somewhat of an interesting story, world and being a literal haven for build autists and Pokemon collectan.

The XCom Files, if you can stomach the old graphics and control scheme. I'd hazard to say that it's one of the most complex XCom games ever.

I really really like it and recommend it. It steals a lot from Into the Breach, but for me it's more fun. Instead of being a weak mech barely able to kill bugs by pushing them, you play as powerful units who can launch people into the sky. The most unique aspect is that you gain defense from running around, to mimic the run n gun style. So a unit that runs across the map is more protected than someone hunkering down behind cover

NTA, but if you mean whether it's a semi-linear tactical RPG with a proper story, then yes, it is that. While I did love the time I spent with it, it has to be said that the writing is immensely hit or miss. It's that very 90s mix of hyper violence and wacky hijinks you'd see in, for example, the earlier Fallout games (not surprising, since this series inspired Fallout in the first place). It is very silly in places - but intentionally. Great music. Some jank in controls. Expacs are more of the same and have no bearing on the overall story. Solid 7/10.

Gears Tactics would be incredible if they made a sequel with interior combat like in Xcom 2 and it didn't force you to beat the game with story characters. The core gameplay is great. It's like a mix of Phoenix Point and Xcom where you only choose who to aim at, but your bullets can hit units in front or behind what you're shooting at.

More of a turn based tactics game than a straight up XCOM clone, but if you like Girls' Frontline and/or anime aesthetics you should look at Codename Bakery.

There's openxcom mod called X-Chronicles where you start with guns but quickly switch to using magic, swords, shields, staves and other fantasy rpg like equipment. Not sure if it's any good but maybe it's your cup of tea.

>Gears Tactics
So much missed potential in this one. It has an amazing framework but the actual game bored me so much that I didn't finish it.
>half the missions have story essential main characters you have to use
>the two main characters aren't offensively bad but are a lame duo compared to Marcus and Dom or Baird and Cole
>pretty good customization on your randomly recruited dudes, and there's strategy layer mechanics forcing you to have a stable B team (and even a C team during endgame), but it all falls apart when missions force you to use main characters
>game is tonally weird: villain is a locust scientist that you have to find and kill, but this is only one year into the war. It makes no sense to have named locust at this point, and for characters to casually talk about this villain like he's Makarov from COD when the locust are supposed to be mysterious ayylmaos at this point in the war. Even the random stronk powerful civilian womyn you recruit has a personal grudge against this random named locust
>boss fights are just weird puzzles that are extremely hard because they don't follow the logic of the regular combat
>weird shit in the UI and presentation, such as equipment being in literal color coded lootboxes complete with fortnite animations as you open them in the base
>no base building or strategy layer at all, just equip dudes and go to next mission
It could have been so good but they just made so many bad decisions. I unironically enjoyed Phoenix Point as a complete package more than this game. If PP had the brutality and interactivity of Gears Tactics' combat it would be perfect.
