team cherry has the gall to call themselves a 3 man team and the actual credits are several minutes of QA coordinators, sound engineers and musicians, background artists, voice actors, marketing, etc etc, unironically pisses me off

I think you misunderstood what 'indie' means. >>720046901
So I have to starve or beg daily in front of a supermarket before I finish my game to count as indie?
Sounds like /v/tardation to me.

Contractors are not a part of the team. They're dispensable goons responsible for a specific task with no control beyond the scope of what they're asked for.

indie = independently published.
it doesn't really matter how large your team is, as long as you aren't beholden to some third party.
I'd argue kickstarted games are no longer indie depending on their pledges, they've just crowdsourced a publisher.

That's literally how Nick Rochefort operates. Sam always gives people who smoke weed shit unless it's his friend Nick because he "built his own house" and the fat fuck just bitches about contractors and wood workers on every episode of PGL>>720047641
>>720047819 >indie = independently published.
So Stardew Valley wasn't an indie game by that logic despite being made by one guy entirely, nice logic there.

That is because that studio is the original sin of fake indie games. Bastion was good but it was not indie. It's a fucking Warner Brothers funded and published game.
They paved the way to make indie just mean 2d by a not established IP.
>>720048521 >its just an action game with numbers >people still insist that it is infact an RPG because they made up all kinds of details and backstories for their character and pretend things that never could happen in the game happened and this fanfiction means the game is something you can roleplay in
God how is it possible that these people are the ones in charge of deciding what games die and what games succeed.
>>720048521
I hate this so fucking much
I swear, every modern "RPG" is like this
Hell, some other games fit in RPG genre better than them despite not being labeled as such

Yes.
"Indie" just means that you don't have a publisher and/or are a small dev team. It's the opposite of "AAA" which is made by huge corporations.
....of course, I wish that "indie" still meant "individual", but we're kind of past the point where a single person can make a videogame more complex than simple flash games, in a reasonable amount of time.
