They didn't really shy away from this kind of imagery.
The hanged boy whose bloodied bear toy you have to bring to his father.
Or the little girl with half of her arm chopped off for being born in 'enemy' family.
Quite brutal.

Whats the 4 that got added to my glyph skills?
I got it randomly? during/after the Watcher's nest portion.
I thought it was the skill to search for timeloop enemies they mention but i think thats a consumable item i put in my loadout with the other consumables?
Anyhow, im down to the lymbic forge and close to drop the game, its not that interesting and the puzzles so far have been toddler tier.
Link to the comic since i think a lot of anons haven't read it

There's not much to talk about.
Lore is relatively straightforward besides some vague stuff about the origin of the whole demon shit.
Puzzles you either get or look up in a guide otherwise anons will sneer at you for being brainlet.

That's the active relic skill - you have 2 relic slots one passive one active, besides the defense gear.
Time loop guardian compass is reusable item you equip together with consumables.

Combat is slightly souls like as in stamina bar, dangeours enemies and attacks requiring you to commit.
There it ends any similarity with a souls like.
Its an exploration puzzle-lite game with burst of fairly mediocre action, im playing in the hardest difficulty and the combat is just ok, i die more often to the fucking lock on mechanic than to the enemies.
However the vibe of the game is immaculate, you are traversing a country ravaged by a civil war and a plague of "creatures" and get to witness some really horrific shit. War crimes as far as the eye can see.

Combat is vaguely souls like but anons said it's closer to 1st Nier.
There are some mechanics used from Bloodborne and Nioh too.
The main draw is exploration not combat so if you want game with good combat try looking elsewhere.
You probably got the basic setting:
You're a guy born in a isolationist vaguely eastern european country and your mother managed to smuggle you out when you were a child.
Now you're back, the civil war is in full swing and also there are fucking demons killing everyone indiscriminately if you piss them off.
Your initial goal is to reach your home town and find your parents but that changes relatively quickly and you get mixed in a lot of bad shit.

The vast majority of puzzles should be solvable entirely within the area theyre located in. Im fine with a few that require traveling between areas but this constant back and forth between areas sucks and not knowing if I cant solve a puzzle because im a fucking idiot or if theres a piece of paper in the next area that just gives me a solution is frustrating.

Most of the 'can only be solved later' stuff are just chest keys and adventure parts where you bring items to NPCs.
Bigger puzzles like Watcher's nest or Jeljin cemetery can be solved in the same area without traveling or talking to anyone outside.

You get 3 photographs of a young couple
One of them together pregnant with a racing car in the background
One with the wife and the toddler now born playing with a toy car
One with the toddler now a young kid playing on a cardboard car
You line them up in wall and can see that the first 2 pictures feature cars with numbers on them so if you set them up correctly you have 4 out of the 6 needed numbers.
The third one the photo doesnt show any number on the cardboard car the kid is playing in but you can go to the basement of that house and find the car itself and see that it has an sticker with a number on it on the front.
So now you have the 6 numbers (2 in each pick) just need to set them up in the proper order which happens to be just chronologically
Thats one of the better puzzles i have found in the game and thats faint praise.

Action-adventure, like a weird sci-fi Indiana Jones. You play as a guy investigating a mysterious a civil-war-torn country with its own fictional history, religions and lore. You explore modern areas and ancient ruins, discover artifacts, and help NPCs in more traditional RPG fashion (small narrative fetch quests).

Main influence is obviously Souls (stamina and lock-on combat, intricate branching level design), but it’s not trying to be a straight copy. There are tweaks to formula and it mixes in other influences, especially Resident Evil (or more generally, point-and-click/escape room) type of progress gating/light puzzle-solving (bring item to door, matching symbols, odd mechanisms, passwords in documents, etc.), though more open-ended and spread out map-wise.

The world is semi-open (not one big world, you teleport to hub regions) and non-linear, backtrack-heavy, with a mix of larger areas, tighter dungeons and NPC hubs.

Combat is more forgiving than Souls, but also more focused on crowd control and with some novel mechanics (timing-based healing). I find it fun but downside is lack of enemy variety and no bosses, gets repetitive.

Promised slightly less guidance than modern equivalents but doesn't fully commit to the bit. Not challenging by any means unless you're brain-damaged but it's just more rooted in 90's standards than 2020's constant handholding. Expects you to explore thoroughly, pay attention to details, remember unsolved points of interest to backtrack to later, mentally map branching/slightly mazey levels. Light puzzling and dungeon crawling, don't expect deep eureka moments or really getting lost, just perhaps 10 minutes of mild confusion at times. Nothing mind-blowing but pleasant and satisfying.

Atmosphere, art direction, environmental storytelling, worldbuilding and attention to details all great, but a bit tonally inconsistent. And you can feel it's made on a smaller AA budget. Made by former art director from Deus Ex HR/MD.

1st act ends when you insert the first, blue keystone where it belongs.

Only ones on a timer are the obvious ones with NPC in danger, but don't stress too much.
Simply traveling to another region won't brick quests, I think.
The one guy who needs pills, you only find them later.
But generally, if you do find a requested item, try to bring it back asap. And always check back with npcs to see if they move around.
Major triggers are when you reach the end of a large dungeon and grab the dungeon mcguffin, it'll be obvious when you reach those points.

woman locked in underground ruins near trenches in 1st area
big tower reachable from the trenches area
hermit - photo lense
free the dog - !!! solve as soon as act 2 starts !!!
bring more mead to drunk soldier after giving him half full bottle
bring pills and radio to two abandoned ON soldiers in marsh ruins
save priest in ropes
save small girl who's living in attic near a tree house
interactable elephant toy in 2nd floor of some house
keypad locked OMSIF site with ruins in swamp
door with 5 symbols in corridors under the Jova city
Try to solve everything else before using the blue key, you'll know which one.

>The puzzles overall are not very hard... they're just standard Resident Evil type puzzles and never go beyond that. I was expecting some big brain shit like Outer Wilds but it was just password/code puzzles over and over. It was a good game overall but, but not amazing.
Basically why I dropped my hype on the game, for once a reviewer put it perfectly. Theres like zero interactivity with any of the puzzles. Its the effective equivalent of just pressing buttons in a correct order at every turn. No depth, No substance, No developments. Additional factors cannot be added to complicate something so fundamentally mechanically simple. Hence they can only stack how much you have to remember to press or so.

Which is Ironic, because Outer Wilds itself isnt very interactive, but its enviroment is very dynamic, so the game is about understanding how to find the order in the chaos basically. How to become "one" with the environment and flow with it. Not against it. Virtually every single outer wilds puzzle can be explained by this virtue.

And it is why, despite not having direct interactivity where the player can manipulate, effect, and change things naturally, logically as a direct course of an ACTION rather than "input".

The enviroment still gets to be interactive on its own, and engage you the player, and you engage it (Quantum stuff, Photographing. Its a feedback relationship, you need it to exist as something dynamic before you can stablize it without even interacting directly)

Then in 400AD there's a religious protestant-esque schism, which with 400AD technology would go nowhere. The way people write these ancient scrolls sounds way too close to modern speech, regardless if using the new language or the old. It makes it sound extremely artificial and not organic compared to how real speech evolved.

The combat is so basic but the world, atmosphere, and the areas + level design are keeping me engaged for some reason. It's just an oddly interesting game. I do wish they had more attack variety, like heavies or running/rolling attacks to at least spice up combat a tiny bit.

Anyone know what the best weapon types are? I have just been using the rage greatsword and an ecstasy regular sword, seems pretty good. I tried the axes but they just feel so weak and the polearm seems kinda shit.

Dungeon Prison Room: This multi-floor prison room is both a puzzle and combat challenge, with strategic exploration and timing.

Layout:
>Three floors, each with two wings.
>Each wing contains four pressure plates labeled A1–F4 and prison cells, each linked to one of the six levers at the bottom of the room.
>Navigation is non-linear: debris blocks some staircases and paths, requiring ladders, connecting routes, and floor holes to reach all plates.

Levers:
>Six levers at the bottom, each with a unique symbol.
>Unlocking a lever is timed: players must activate the correct plates and return to the bottom before the timer expires.
>Only three levers are required to progress; the other three open optional treasure rooms, indicated by the same symbol.

Pressure Plates & Mechanics:
>Plates are labeled A1–F4.
>Markings show which plates unlock a lever, e.g., β€œMoon symbol opens with B2, C4, F1.”
>Stepping on a plate costs half your health, adding risk to each activation.
>Some plates unlock all prison cells in a wing, releasing enemies.

Enemies & Strategic Combat:
>Prison cells contain enemies. Combat is not just a threat: players have a lifesteal mechanic that allows them to regain health by defeating enemies.
>This creates strategic choices: triggering multiple cells can make the puzzle easier if you plan to regain health through combat.

Challenge:
>Players must plan routes, balance health costs, strategically use enemies to regain health, navigate blocked paths, and return to levers in time.
>The puzzle combines navigation, timing, combat, resource management, and observation, rewarding careful planning and mental mapping.

if only game had more like that

I was too focused on clearing the area for good and finding the guardians, i didn't pay attention to not failing the 4 flare quest meanwhile i didn't have the right prism to close it anyway. Goddamnit.

Cronos is more like a slow paced atmospheric movie game , if you have a good pc it's worth it imo. Playing it in 4k is pretty insane. Hell is us has actual more gameplay. It also looks and performs very well tho.

Combat sucks ass, exploration feels too meandering, story is just misery porn, feels like some guys rape fantasy. If you like running around bland environments looking for a pencil to bring back to a guy you met 5 hours ago for a shitty reward, that's the game for you

1: Players must derive a code from numbers associated with objects or documents spread across an area. Some items that seem important are actually irrelevant, while subtler details hold the key. An additional source of information, such as dialogue or environmental cues, provides guidance on how to interpret the sequence. The objects and clues also convey lore that connects to other puzzles and storytelling elements elsewhere in the game, rewarding attentive and observant players.

2: Scattered across the world are multiple cryptic notes, each containing fragments of letters and obscure handwriting. When found individually, each note seems confusing, and the player can’t immediately tell if it’s useful. As more notes are discovered over hours and across multiple regions, a pattern begins to emerge, revealing a full term. Players must also recognize that these notes are connected to another document written in the same handwriting and style, providing additional context and guidance. Term is not a real-world word, so online anagram generators won’t help. Instead, it’s a unique in-game term rooted in game lore, only referenced in dialogue or environmental details. Rewards attention to detail and engagement with the world.

3: Players may find a document related to a particular theme, with certain entries highlighted, potentially hinting at a password. Elsewhere, a password-locked computer provides no explicit hints, but environmental details like hobby-related objects or posters reference the same theme, guiding observant players to connect the two.

All of these puzzles share a few core design principles:
>Fragmented information: Clues are spread across time and space.
>Hidden logic: Not immediately obvious; requires observation, inference, or memory.
>Connection across sources: Multiple types of clues (notes, objects, environment) must be synthesized.
>Lore integration: Solutions make sense in the world’s context rather than being arbitrary.

Having played both, play Lost Soul Aside instead. It's the best of the three. Just stick to it until you unlock the second weapon and start doing weapon switching combos, shit's fun

Done with the game, failed 2 of the Good Deeds, the Musician and the Milk :(
I really liked it, tthe setting is very interesting, and the atmosphere of the game is top notch, but it's clear they're setting up for a DLC or sequel that I'm afraid they're not gonna get to make.

What am I wrong about? Does the combat not suck assholes dry? Does exploration not consist of you meandering around bland environments looking a toothrbrush you need to bring back to a guy on map 1 so that he can tell you how evil soldiers shoved it up his daughters little asshole and you can all cry about it? It does and you know it

>Combat sucks
I really don't get this complaint. Not everything has to be outright amazing to be good and fun
>Meandering
If you are just walking around and not on the lookout for details then that's a you problem
>Bland environments
Very stupid opinion. Just because everything is drab and dreary doesn't mean there is a lack of artistry and character
>game about civil war has war atrocities
War is le bad is an over used theme. But what separates Hell is Us from the rest is that one side isn't depicted as being morally superior than the other.
The Jova sewers are perfect encapsulation of this.
>Palomists hang all Sabians in town
>Sabian grandmother escapes with baby into the underground sewers
>Sabian army comes in and systematically kills the Palomists
>Family of Palomists escape the killing and flee into the same sewers the Sab grandmother fled to
People from both sides living in fear of one another but unbeknownst to them neighbors in the sewers.
