Yeah, that's the thing. Ocarinas (historically) are usually made of hollowed out gourds and such, while modern ones are fired clay. But then traditional flutes are hollowed out bamboo shoots and long reeds like that, and modern ones are metal. It's kinda a holdover on what they used to be
