I remember playing this upon release
All the complaints from casuals who dropped the game back then are the same ones I see being expressed over Silksong today. So why is this considered a normie game now? Is being popular all it takes? I don't see how you can seriously claim titles like Cuphead and Sekiro are for casuals just because they're popular unless you're just being a facetious faggot.

hollow knight was never hard retarded fag. it had some very hard optional bosses. silksong is pretty tough in comparison with early game bosses already doing 2 hearts of damage

the game isn't hard (if you don't do any optional challenges) but it has some stuff that would be considered annoying and unnecessary by today's standards since people like their "QoL" so much, like only being able to switch charms on benches or the entire existence of the wayward compass

I remember on release, the map guy didn't sing or leave a paper trail to help you find him. It made finding him all the more of a nice surprise moment.
Casuals complained about being retarded and getting lost so the devs added all that to ruin the fun.

The first one was just too fucking boring, I'm liking the new one, though.

not being able to fill out the map for an area without finding him first is pretty annoying though

Many anons love to jerk off over how good they are at video games. Next year everyone will be saying Silksong is an easy game for casuals, just as with Sekiro and Cuphead, which you already pointed out. People act as if there weren't 3000 posts on /v/ crying about Lady Butterfly having a second phase and suddenly all you hear is how it's an easy babby game.

I don't remember people calling it hard, but it is true for compas taking noches, droping currency on death etc

I doubt it.
Hollow Knight is easy apart from optional bosses. You die a few times to random bosses and that's it.
Based on clips Silksong is way harder.

I can barely remember anything about Hollow Knight and when playing it for the first time I feel like it was uncommon that something stood out as special or a cool moment. Maybe replaying it with a fresh perspective would help me see it, but I really don't get what all the fuss is about.

Lady Butterfly is genuinely very easy though, I couldn't believe it when I saw people even suggesting she was difficult. You fight Juzou right before her and he's 10 times harder, I don't know how people can get past Juzou and not feel comfortable enough with the game at that stage to not beat Lady Butterfly with ease.

hollow knight is a perfect game for someone who never played metroidvanias. I can recommend silksong only to fans of the genre

I don't mind him signaling he's nearby like that. Still gives you plenty of time to wander the area and get lost, but still makes it easy to find him once you're close so you don't spend TOO much time looking for him.

Better question since gaming in general seems bleak (muh industry layoffs, yet games filled with hundreds of trees keep being released);

What can other indie devs learn from this?

dunno about cuphead but sekiro is a game for casuals, yes. not ironically. when you're all grown up and ready to play a non-casual game - automation, strategy, and survival will be here for you.

My biggest complaint about these games is that they force you to travel so fucking far just to get back to the boss you died at. That takes up the most time in these fucking games.
It's not hard to travel all the way back. It's just way too time consuming and annoying.

The badge system in HK shits all over SS, imagine if you had to pick between the shooty ball, dive and howling and could only switch them at the bench- complete utterly retardation of design.

Juzou took some trying but wasn't too bad for me but Butterfly filtered my ass so I just came back later once I acquired some more upgrades and gitgud. I'd agree that she's one of the easier bosses now but that bitch is pretty hard to deal with if a new player blindly beelines toward her.

So far I feel like silksong is better at that than hollow knight. The mobility options you get early on make (most) of the boss runbacks feel pretty good to flow through with a bit of practice. Sometimes it feels like the developers are slapping me in the balls for a laugh, though.

Hollow Knight is good for both speedrunning trannies and people who are bad at games (like me). Silksong was exclusively made for speedrunning trannies.

i saw people saying the mantis lords were too hard for them so they needed 7 hp before the fight. i think i had 5 hp and the 1st nail upgrade when i beat hollow knight, so i'm finding silksong easier so far.
