I can still fuck around with some difficult games but god is my time more important than my money these days. Yeah I could afford everything that comes out and not even blink at the difference in my bank statement but fuck when can I actually play the damned things? I stopped buying things on steam sales and only bought things I'm actually going to install and play that instant and even if I pay more for games I spend way less on them overall.

for me it's the opposite. I used to be a huge shitter when I was little but now I'm playing on the hardest difficulties and having lots of fun trudging through them
