Isn't it kind of weird how X-Play was successful enough to have over 1500 episodes and yet nothing has replaced it?

THE ENTIRE INTERNET REPLACED TV SHOWS ANON.

It's not weird. The internet simply made that kind of TV show obsolete, like the E3.

For me it was electric playground with the cool nerd guy and and that Italian con artist. Hearing them argue about games was great

The show was struggling to keep an audience even in the years it was on despite a pivot to being a more "serious" show that included news and interviews. The thing is G4 (and TechTV before it) was always on the precipice of failure, and it wasn't that surprising when it gave up the ghost.

They tried to, it was destroyed by some leftoid chick who single handedly destroyed the careers of a bunch of people with a rant that had everyone on camera sweating bullets when she started doing it live in front of millions of future un-subscribers.

It was the last show of it's kind. You can't really do a show like X-play nowadays since you can get essentially the same experience from any given Youtube channel. It's a relic of the pre-social media world (or more accurately, the world before social media infested everything and was more just a tool to facilitate IRL stuff or just make jokes and shit) just like Jackass.

I'm not sure if he has all G4 episodes, but this guy has been uploading a good deal of them to his channel for years now:
https://www.youtube.com/@newspooiechannel

I suspect it's someone that worked there when the show was relevant and existed since he started right as the OG G4 ended/was ending.
Anonymous No.720094385 [Report]
>>720094135
Probably. There's a lot of older shows in various states of lost media like Blister and Pulse. We got the remaining lost episodes of Portal earlier this year actually due to some random guy having them recorded on VHS tapes.

Funny you say that because G4 started long after the Internet was in pretty much every home in the US, and I remember the initial hype turning into disappointment when I'd start seeing reruns with stale as fuck coverage. Like who was watching this shit?
Anonymous No.720095634 [Report] >>720100127
>>720087171
I would say they were on the verge of being more relevant than ever with being first to stream live from multiple conventions, adopting new social media and tech in its infancy and being the only channel dedicated to nerd shit before it really became a multi billion dollar industry.
Had somebody had the foresight to just move online rather than gut the channel they'd still be here and a fore runner for everything in video games, comics and probably tech
Anonymous No.720096342 [Report]
It got outpaced by the Internet and individuals
There's nobody to fund this kind of programming and the entire selling point of it basically doesn't exist because companies are better at marketing now and people shill products for cheap or free
Anonymous No.720097094 [Report]
>>720085320 (OP)
Because when G4 aired television was much cheaper & easier to produce than today. Add in variables like media saturation, inflation, curated content, more reliable entertainment measurement metrics, I highly doubt G4 could have even existed today if it was a new IP using the previous budget. They even tried to relaunch with a webseries it and failed to garner any meaningful viewership.
Anonymous No.720097640 [Report]
Literally any streamer with an internet connection can produce that kind of content for 1/1000th of the price.
