If you duplicate yourself right now, the duplicate will have every memory you have up to the duplication, he will continue on donating new memories.

You do the same, except you cant see his memories and he cant see yours. The game switched to the copy, you, the original robot Simon did not switch. The first Simon you played as is the same one sitting in the chair.

The Netflix show Pantheon actually takes this route. In order to convince people that they're not just committing suicide, the original human body has its brain melted as a digital copy of said brain is scanned and uploaded into the digital cloud. The main villain of the show is only evil because he wants to force this onto everyone so he can be the equivalent to a god and avoid his own mortality....even though by the time he gets his brain scanned he's been dead for about 2 decades.

Spec Ops is completely fine because Walker is a reasonable man breaking down in the face of his own mistakes. Soma is literal slop because you play as a flat scan retard with zero brainpower who spends the entire game being tricked by a retarded chick who wants to kill humanity, and the whole game is presented as a "good" thing.

If the game had the option to instead attempt to preserve the remaining humans as much as possible, and give the ark to the WAU for an uncertain ending in which Simon attempts to make the WAU understand the tenets of humanity to create a hybrid race, it would've been a decent game. Instead, the writers were as dumb as Simon is, and didn't even comprehend that players might instead side with the one in a million moonshot (which had already managed to recreate Simon using a corpse in a clear step forward over earlier attempts), over the literal zero percent chance of the ark working, as all it would do is let a few retarded brain scans have an orgy for a few million years until they got hit with an asteroid, there is no difference between doing absolutely nothing and launching the ark.

I think the only issue is a mismatch in morality with an intelligence that is notably shown to improve in its approach over the course of the game. Who knows what strides it'd make in a few more years?

Killing off the remaining humans and fleeing with the ark ensures that WAU will never achieve anything. Sure, maybe you fail and you just get tortured until you go insane, or maybe you succeed and immortal WAU-human cyborgs retake the surface in a few hundred years. Even if you don't think it's worth the risk, as the last remaining "human" with function, Simon could get everyone else ensnared in WAU to increase the odds, and then delete his own brain scan and blow his fake brainstem to pieces. That would've been a more interesting moral conundrum, do you risk hell in pursuit of heaven, or just return to nothingness?

It's probably partially cope, but Simon is legitimately a less capable brain scan than something like Catherine's brain scan. It's one of the first ever to be made, over a century before it's being pressed into service in a way that it wasn't intended for. Simon very likely does have problems assimilating new information. Catherine points out that as a legacy brain scan, he's somewhat rudimentary.

The Ark may not be a personal continuation of consciousness but on the wider scale it is. Humanity can learn and grow and interact, just in a new form, since the old one is no longer viable. As for Simon aside from the brain damage defense he's also been getting this far "winning coin flips" so I can cut him a bit of slack. He's Simon, to himself, not Simon #82749; if he'd been given a moment to sit with the idea (I can't remember if he's told this much or if it was also in the half-lie yadda yadda good enough keep moving spiel) that he's just another copy, a jumping point with pre established data, then maybe it would've sunken in.

The WAU doesn't understand what it means to be a human, rather than "alive"
So it gave bodies to minds, or created Matrix like dreams, or just glued people into a wall and gave them nutrients and such. But it was evolving and learning.

If I were to do a SOMA sequel it would be a Giger like world where the WAU spread and created new forms of "life". A hellish subversion of mankind, constantly redefining itself by existence.

The problem with this is that Simon doesn't really act retarded anywhere but the core tenet of the story, because he's written to try and make midwits agree with his "coin flip" bullshit. The problem comes when you have an IQ above room temperature, and so you're waiting for some kind of twist to come but it never does, it's just a story about a moronic lap dog doing nothing of value and then dying.

Honestly, the WAU is very poorly defined in the story, it's supposed to just be a generic glowing butthole "bad guy" but then you're expected to gloss over the fact that it rebuilt Simon into an individual body at the start of the game, which is clearly at odds with many of the other experiments you see throughout the game. The evolution of WAU is blatant, and the game treating it like a set piece is insanely frustrating. You can even take shit like the scene where the WAU captures Simon and puts him into a spooky dream of his old apartment as an attempt at communication, but instead the retarded protagonist just goes "oh no no no SPOOPY" and runs off.

The earth has been fucked up six times in its existence resulting in major extinction events. Including stuff similar to Soma earth.

Only thing that can truly fuck up life on earth is when the planet itself is destroyed when the sun starts to die in a billion years or so. By that time not only have human monkeys spread out into the cosmos but also long since evolved into different species and offshoots

It's worth mentioning that the WAU will fuck you up to defend itself. It pops the heads of everyone in Omicron and would have done the same to you if you weren't a zombie robot already. It also sends the Leviathan to eat Dr. Ross while he's threatening the both of you.

Well sure, self-preservation is the minimum instinct required for intelligence. Personally I see Simon as being intended as a conduit, which is why WAU does nothing but help you throughout the game, and can't even prevent you from killing it, maybe because it considers you as an arbitrator. And then you abandon it to go LARP in space.

I guess you could write a sequel where earth Simon goes back to WAU and stops being retarded. Have it be set on the ark after thousands of years, where everyone is chilling, and then the world is attacked by black tendrils and the elders start freaking out and deleting themselves, only to eventually end with the whole thing actually just being the massively advanced WAU-humanity attempting to say hey to the retarded satellite full of boomers.

It wasn't a coin flip, it was taking one coin, creating an exact copy of it and throwing the original in the ocean.
The only reason we continued to play the game after the body swap at Omicron is because the narrative required the POV to be the new Simon's.

After the ending, I would've rather teamed up with WAU because fuck simulations. My worst nightmare is finding out that there's a real reality out there and I'm inside a computer, so I would never upload myself into a simulation.
I'd just ask WAU for a better body and become its personal samurai in exchange. I'd figure out how to help the planet later.

Simple explanation for coin tards btw:
Simon1 & 2 never have the same memories.
Simon1 memory is copied up until the instant simon2 is activated but there is lag time however big or small where simon is still forming memories while simon2 is being turned on so simon1 always has awareness of not being simon2 and simon2 if he thinks about it will be able to deduce the same due to memory gaps
