It's not a debate. PS1 had more quality games and a better price point. N64 had some real gems, but crap games outweighed it even for a system that had far fewer total releases. Practically no one owned a Saturn due to price point, lack of great games, or having great games also available on PS1. Not to upset the Sega fans, but they shit the bed on that one, and the timing was just awful.

Maybe you didn't grow up when these systems were released. Price is absolutely a factor. and I only brought up the limited total releases on the 64 to point out that the diamonds on that system were few even for a system of relatively few releases. Don't get upset, each of the systems has a lot to love about it, but in trying to be as objective as possible, N64 would lose to PS1.

My personal favorite is the Saturn. I feel like it was Sega at their best with their most unique console first-party output. Objectively, PS1 is the winner for the sheer amount of games. Models are a bit wonky but the animations look awesome. I think all the humans were mocapped which is crazy for 1998. The presentation is incredible with the camera making every boss feel more dramatic and grand than the last and some of those effects are awesome to behold. I agree about the models looking off at times, but everything else is awesome.

I'm not at all denying the PS1's impressively extensive library of good games, I grew up with it and keep playing new games to this day, but it absolutely does not have 80 games at the level of quality of the N64s top 20. Zelda is the real giant here. The platformers/shooters are still fantastic and handily better than any 3D PS1 equivalent (PS1's *2D* platformers are really incredible though and I'll actually vouch for it from this angle). But the closest the PS1 comes to Zelda is MML (actually great) and Alundra (mediocre LttP ripoff). Zelda is the real one-two punch KO, and shows just how far gaming can be taken in terms of world interactivity in real time.

As 'turn based combat' focused games, JRPGs are almost entirely worthless in gameplay quality. For turn based titles in general is where Nintendo actually wins in some of the strongest ways. Between Pokemon, Fire Emblem, (Famicon/Advance) Wars, Ogre Battle etc. Nintendo have some of the strongest tactical games that any console offers at all.

There is nothing on the playstation or saturn that is even close to Ocarina/Majora's but those games are outliers in their own console. There are some deranged faggots on this board that think megaman legends is comparable somehow but to anyone sane this is a known fact.

Outside the top 10 games, basically all of them made by either nintendo or rare, the nintendo 64 falls off a fucking cliff though and has nothing worth playing.

N64 had the most recognition among normies at the time, but that was entirely due to A) Mario and B) people finding Nintendo through Pokemon. I didn't have an N64, I had a Gameboy with Pokemon Blue.
PS1 had more and better games, and was the one that the most people actually played, including me.
I had no idea the Saturn even existed until this year. I'm pretty sure the first SEGA game I remember playing was Sonic Heroes, on PS2. Not the best first impression.
