>new updates looks cool enough
>finally convince me to finally try this piece of casual survivalslop excuse for a space sim
>get in, do the tutorial, fairly impressed by performance load times blah blah
>get in the ship
>no manual thrust control, locked into some kind of physics bending arcadey autopilot
>expected this much, meh it's fine it's not a hardcore game I can still have fun with it
>wait why won't my ship stop
>uhhh my ship is just incapable of stopping/hovering, min speed locked to 20m/s a second at all times in atmo
>why? because fuck you
>I have so little control over my advanced 30th century fucking spaceship I can't even hover it in place for a moment to check the map
fucking joke of a game, refunding this shit

Doesn’t it pause when you check your map

Yeah that's one of the big problems they never addressed. The ship controls are Fisher Price tier, which is fucked up because you're gonna be spending a LOT of time flying a ship. I think they actually made the game even more braindead and idiot-proof as time went on.

You can just install mod for hovering instead of crying

That's the funny thing after playing over 3 hours I spent less than 15 minutes flying and the rest of the time just shooting my spacegun at rocks and cactuses. This sh*t's lame I want the awesome procedural universe but with actual spaceship mechanics... if flying the ship is supposed to be the most important part lf the game why do you have barely any depth/control over it???

>if flying the ship is supposed to be the most important part lf the game
it isn't, getting from point A to point B is, hence the streamlined controls
I don't want autistic ksp controls just to land my ship on a planet

>the most important part lf the game
The main issue is there is none. It’s all a giant slop of a slop — it’s the definition of slop. An incoherent mess of stapled features, all of them never fleshed out, given any importance or meaning. Different mechanics invalidated half of the game, while others were introduced, broke it, and were never addressed.

It’s a monument to feature creep and design debt. They just throw slop at a wall to see what sticks, to then “HOPEFULLY”™ create a coherent experience with their next game — which I doubt!

And the best part of it all is, they all do it to storming applause of the unwashed masses because its "free", shielding them from any form of criticism what so ever and drowns any meaningful constructive feedback.

>streamlined
NMS is not streamlined. It's trash. It has trash controls, trash navigation, trash combat, trash ships, trash customization, etc, etc.

I disagree, it's an okay game

You're not just wrong, you're also stupid

>autopilot
There's an autopilot option. You don't have an autopilot on by default though. You absolutely control your thrust manually, as well as your boosters. Hyperdrive is more of a loading screen to load in a new system though.

>min speed 20
That doesn't seem right. If I press reserve thrust in space in puts me in reverse, and if I press reverse thrust in atmo is slows me down up to a stop so I can look down. I know because I've been using it to target salvage spots to build my corvette.

I'm really confused by OP's post. Is this a console/pc difference or something I don't know about? Or is there some upgrade I have that OP doesn't?

I'm legitimately baffled as I'm new to the game myself.

I don't understand this as a new player of the game. I repaired by ship, followed their story for a bit, got curious, did some other things, built a base for myself, spent a lot of time doing that and getting the stuff I wanted, went exploring, kept coming back to base to add things I found to the base, increased my storage, got enough parts I started building my corvette and treating it like a second mobile base so it's not super fast or powerful but it's a huge floating base camp totally customized. I even spent some time fishing, more time discovering old ruin stuff that when I discovered it added to my build options, I did more story, found cool things, grew a living ship, met some sentient robot people named autophages.

I've only been playing a few months but I'm not sure what people mean when they say there's nothing to do. I just went deep sea diving earlier and found a bunch of cool stuff. Then I found a crashed sentinel fighter. I went to an autophage camp and built a new multitool that looks like a cool staff. I unlocked a cape and hooded bobafet mask to customize my character with. I started building up a colony of people and doing things for them to expand the little town. I built a little sentinel bot that follows me around. I finished the story. I found more quests and stories to pursue.

I really just don't get what people mean. What were they expecting from this game? Were they expecting a mass effect style story? I built an entire corvette piece by piece and then zoomed down to a planet and fished off the cargo ramp then cooked the fish and put it in my nutrient processor to give me constant auto renewing buffs. I went on a multiplayer missions with a bunch of randos and traded the currency for some cool plants I could place at my base to make a terrarium.

If I run out of things to do one day I mean that's inevitable but think I got my 20usd worth long ago at this point.

Not him but regulae ships don't actually come to a full stop while hovering above ground level, you can't even reverse
Literally tested it right now with my S class exotic
Some ships DO hover though but not the default ones for sure

>What were they expecting from this game?
For the features they add into the game to not be half of an idea that will MAYBE get an update 3 years later. I say this as someone who likes the game, but the few features that interested me specifically - settlements, animals, derelicts, pirate dreadnaughts, piracy in general, exploration - are all puddle deep and barely even a thing
That's the main issue with NMS, if you just do random shit it can be pretty fun, but if you try to focus on anything specifically it all falls apart
