I don't think it's even possible to make "magic" actually feel like magic. You always need to end up with the classic old "Characters deal damage to each other. Once HP reaches 0 the character dies."
So it's always just projectiles with different colors doing number damage, just like in any other game.
Videogames are so limiting in this way. Can't make it feel magicky, it's always just boring numbers.

Castle and nearby areas are hyperkino and dripping with sovl, a lot of the rest is ubislop, combat is functional but boring for a game about MAGIC users. Ok/10 to an almost aggressive degree overall.

it's okay but you can tell it's made for teenagers. also i played it on console when i should've played it on pc in hindsight. the console versions are kinda blurry in performance mode.

Very mediocre. Like the absolute definition of "mid as fuck." Lacks enemy types so you are always fighting the same shit. The only fun part is being at Hogwarts, but that isn't even half the game. The story also lacks absolutely any tension because the villain is not at all intimidating. So

The idea of an open world RPG set in Hogwarts got me hyped.
Then i did some research and turns out its just another Ubislop open world with a Harry Potter skin and i just kind of lost interest.

10/10 castle visuals they fucking knocked it out of the park in terms of comfy interiors
2/10 castle interactivity. They could have just absolutely filled it top to bottom with puzzles and secret areas in every nook and cranny but there's literally THREE fucking puzzles in the whole castle to unlock. Instead of wasting their time building a big shitty open world full of recycled poacher camps they should have just doubled down on making the castle more interesting to explore
The fact they felt they had to include a massive open countryside instead of just giving us a fleshed out castle grounds and a big forbidden forest to explore is just ubislop at its finest. Instead the castle felt pretty but devoid of any real life, and the castle grounds felt empty and rushed

Should have just gone all the way and made it wizard persona, with proper NPC schedules and calendars and classes the students actually atttended instead of one mission for each class

Hogwarts and Hogsmede were fucking amazing, everything else sucked. Pretty sure I spent the vast majority of my playthrough running through Hogwarts 100%'ing the collections there without a guide, and it was actually enjoyable.

It lacks immersion which is why it failed as a HP-game. The shit ass gameplay would have been fine but the game made no attempt to simulate being a student in hogwarts. You can tell it has soul. Without question the artist working on the game love the books and wanted to bring that world to life, the gameplay and open world structure just suffer from content overload where there's alot to do, but it doesn't feel rewarding or very interesting. It could've benefitted from scaling down in size.

After the initial disappointment of hogwarts being a lifeless set piece filled with brown faces, if you stick with it you will find the game is actually a god tier zelda clone with some fable thrown in. The merlin trials and overworld dungeons are fun and incredibly atmospheric. Cosmetics and various collectables are satisfying to collect. The room of requirement and magical creature pen are great. Just make sure to play a girl, even if you're not a coomer because the male is a smiley faggot with a horrible voice.
I am still crushed that they didn't just rip off 90% of Bully's atmosphere, worldbuilding and character behavior, but there is still a solid game here.

Like the exp system could maybe use a little work as you literally have to beat the game to reach max level and doing activities after finishing the last challenge is entirely pointless beyond just wanting to clear the map. In Bully every npc had a name and small backstory and personality. They would appear more often in relevant areas and maintained a rough daily schedule. You could interact with all of them, say hi, hit them, or whatever. Why wouldn't they do something like this for HL?
Why is the time of day meaningless outside of triggering cutscenes or collecting moons, where you can just sit on the floor and skip to anytime of day? Attending classes on time and returning to the common room before curfew or face the wrath of the prefects should have been core gameplay. It's a core element of the books. So I can just decide to go on a two week expedition in the forbidden forest and there are no consequences?

Thought it was super gay they made tapping the right trigger your basic attack and holding the right trigger your modifier to use moves. There were many times I snuck up on someone trying to blast them with a move to start combat only to have my pussy basic attack shoot out and ruin all my planning. Horrible choice in game design.
