a bit excusable in act 1 since you just don't have as many options but in act 2 there are like 4 different tools that trivialize most bosses

or like the ant ambush that goes away if you don't get there fast enough
it feels like they purposefully made all of the pathing obscure as to be "open world" but made certain paths more punishing with absolutely no warning
and it's not like you need glitches or anything to get to these places: you pick the wrong path, get punished, think game is too hard, quit
poor game design
i beat the axe boss without the dash because that's the way i went, took a couple tries, but ended up kiting it away and getting lucky with his pattern
if you want to have a game where you punish/challenge players who do well/pick the right path, at least make it evident that this is supposed to be punishing
also, 90% of exploration in this game is unrewarding, you either get lore or 10-20 beads that you could easily bench respawn for less time/effort

No they should just bring the game back to Hollow Knight levels. Most enemies, contact damage, and hazards are 1 mask. Heals and skills cost less so you can use more per full gauge. Way less paid benches, put some benches closer to bosses. Remove the color system from Tools and let people equip what they want on whatever Crest.

I am terrible at shooters so I rarely play them but when I do I just accept its going to be hard for me. Of all the famous "hard" games I have only beaten elden ring and cuphead and I just had to try again and again and again and eventually you will do it, just gotta be patient.

Weren't HK fans proud of the "difficulty" of the first game? It's clear they were pretending the game was hard for bragging rights, and now they are complaining because Silksong is moderately challenging(and event that may be an overestimation of it's difficulty, since I haven't played it). Obviously yes. It costs you nothing if someone else is playing a version of the game with a few values changed.

Every game should have all-encompassing difficulty settings including making enemies not aggro.

I can go to a museum and only look at the paintings' tits. I can buy a movie and fast forward straight to the ending. I can buy a book and skip the 40 pages on whale anatomy. Why would I want less control over a video game, rather than more? Having more control over a game would make it more fun than any other media. Every game should be natively moddable.

Is there any actually coherent reason not to add easy mode? When you gut the main gamemode to appease journalists then it's obviously completely counter-productive, but I don't see why most games - especially specifically "hard" ones - couldn't have a half-assed easy mode setting that just nerfs everything's HP and damage or something like that. Nine Sols for example has a "story mode" and I haven't seen anyone criticise it for this.

Really don't recommend you even bother if you couldn't beat hornet 2. You will not have fun.

Regardless of easy or hard, running 5 minutes past annoying mobs to get to the boss fight is bad game design.
If the challenge is the boss itself, you shouldn't need to pad it with the run back.
The reason they do that is to artificially inflate the difficulty, because the bosses in general take only 3-5 attempts. So they force you to restart the attempt if you get hit by an enemy or fall on spikes.

Dark Souls's appeal is the levels more than the bosses though. Ornstein and Smough is the only base game boss that's actually good in a vacuum.

The difficulty keeps players on the same level and it makes the world more tense and dynamic, and creates situations fully intended by the developers. I would never look at the game the same way if I could just breeze through it, the world is much more alive as it is. It would objectively make the game far worse and rob players of its unique experience to throw a baby mode in there because a reddit dad threw a tantrum.
