I did a vanilla play through when the DLC was announced and it did help me appreciate what the system does. Sure it can be fucking irritating when you can't swap an AC/10 for 2 AC/5s but being able to do so does heavily change how you evaluate chassis.

I can mainly agree with that too, it shifts from valuing variants t valuing parts, like heatsink kits and xl engines.
Although I've had cases where I was malding because I lost one rare part or a kitted out mech got so damaged that I had to put it on ice for years.
That is partially depending on the economic options and whether or not you use the permission system which requires good enough relations to do higher level customization. The better stuff can make repairs take for ages and prohibitively expensive until the late game.
Nonetheless it does switch from valuing the chassis to it's parts aside from quirks and valuing the chassis to get to the parts it has.
