Yes. During the reunion that Jergal hosts, you can discuss plans for the future with Karlach. She'll mention having found out about a device that might be able to permanently stabilize her engine for the material plane, and that it's being held in a fortress in Avernus. It's probably a suicide mission, but she's more than willing to attempt it for a chance at a normal life with you.

Reasons for romancable companions with lower levels of polish on their content:
Karlach was the last companion done. Not even having a unique character model until release.
Minthara was intended to be evil route only.
Wyll’s personality and story was completely rewritten during EA.
Halsin was shoehorned in as a companion due to request of some EA players.
Shart, LZ, Astarion and Gale are all more or less complete.

Other than Karlach, Halsin and Wyll, pretty much every party member in the game is a massive cunt to you until you get through their character arcs. Then you get to see the more pleasant sides of them.
Astarion is one of my favorite characters ever for example, but in my first playthrough I rammed a stick through his heart because he's such an unlikable prick for hours upon hours.

Shadowheart, Lae’Zel, Astarion, and Gale have more depth than it appears at first. Karlach and Wyll are more less exactly what it says on the tin. But at least for Karlach her personality is pretty fun. And Lae’zel in particular tends to have bad first impressions but wins a lot of people over.

A lot of people tend to latch on to characters like Karlach because she's the only one that isn't an asshole to you after you meet (even Wyll attempts to kill you if you recruit Karlach before him).
If you only played BG3 for a little bit, I wouldn't be surprised if you came away thinking that everybody is insufferable because they really don't stop being assholes until maybe midway through Act 2.
Something about a character like Karlach really gets under my skin. It feels like shes the result of a writers room hugbox where they tried really desperately to make a character everyone would like so it has the opposite effect. While all the snide jerk companions are not amazing but at least feel like Larian writing to their strengths.
Wyll and Gay Bear are so boring they're are not worth mentioning.
