I think delayed upgrades is a fair complaint, although not for like, upgraded damage or anything like that. I think the game takes a bit too long to give you your spells and dash, especially the latter since Hornet is supposed to be way more agile. It's not too long, but it made the stretch up to it feel just a bit weaker. I think the tools can be better paced/cheaper as well, as rosaries being tight means I've basically stuck to the throwing knife until you get the triple version for free.
Runbacks, I've no idea why people are complaining about that, but I'm also just getting into Act 2. Maybe it gets exponentially worse from here, but seeing how most of the complaints about dying to bosses is tied to Act 1, I'm inclined to believe that's where people are getting pissed about runbacks as well, and none of them were particularly bad. The only one that stuck out was the cage trap on the way to Beastfly so you can't just rush all the way there, but even then it's just remembering to jump at that section. There's some multiroom ones like Last Judge and Moorwing, but for the most part it's just short little bits of sprinting/minor platforming.
Otherwise, the only valid complaint I'd have for the game so far is that Act 1 is way too green. It makes too many of the areas feel the same, and it doesn't feel like it meshes well with the lava and brass of Deep Docks and some of The Marrows
