I unironically think, as a casual fan, alot of people remove the joy and immersion from the game by changing the internal clock. It also makes the game shorter, and progression less earned and meaningful. So i'd say remove the ability to change time and flesh out the villagers more like everyone has been asking for like the past decade, maybe have less so they can be distinct from each other. They will obviously never add romance but they should ape personas social link system to enhance you connection with the animals and make it sadder when they leave.

Add combat with axes.
You can kill villagers with axes to "reroll" until you get the ones you want.
Or you can just kill everyone like a mad murderhobo
But watch out! The villagers will also fight back with axes.
Combat axes include: Classic axe, Dual hatchets, Heavy axe, Halberd, comically realistic axe and throwing axes.

I think I have grown out of Animal Crossing.
I used to love it.
While I troughly enjoy life simulator aspects like having a house to decorate, clothing, collecting rare and exotic furniture and clothing and making money from gathering, farming and catching bugs and fish, I also crave for adventure and action, challenge and fun, player skill based gameplay, whetever it is very deep RPG combat or very simplistic but fun and satisfying action combat which this series does no have.
It's probably just not for me anymore.

Bigger town/island would be nice too. Maybe make it so big that all shops can fit on the main map instead of a seperate shopping mile or city.
