Bucking the trend of labelling the correct answer B, huh? There's still a thread up btw
Anonymous No.720151163 [Report] >>720162021
I don't think anyone will disagree that A is what happens here. It's even observed ingame that portals have a specific orientation with a top and bottom. When you place it on a floor or ceiling, the orientation of the portal changes with the angle. Portals placed on walls are always right-side up, though. Portals do not account for lean.

People have beaten you to the punch. You can simulate whatever you want, of course, depending on your assumptions. That said, they've found that to make *plop* happen, the best way is to make a fling happen and then halt the cube

The oval rotates?
Anonymous No.720153747 [Report] >>720154290
The answer is A.) Portals lie flat on surfaces they're attached to at the angle of that surface, so it's pretty obvious they're attached and can rotate. This should go without saying, but the "image" in the portal would also rotate. The whole point is that something goes in on one end and comes out on the equivalent point on the other end. Although in game they always land vertically.

If you shoot a portal at a wall, and then a ceiling, the one on the ceiling isn't going to be right side up necessarily

Why would the portal rotating cause light of what is on the other side to rotate?
The opening has not changed the nature of what is on the other side.

it's not subtle at all, it's A
Anonymous No.720155245 [Report]

None of this is real but I guess A because we are pretending that this "portal" is "attached" to the square in some way because if you shoot the gun at the square and the contact with the square creates the portal, the portal is created in the square so in a way it is part of it? IDK. Lol.

the stuff on the other side isn't rotating. think of it like a screen. if you rotate a tv does the content rotate with it? yes. does the real world stuff they filmed rotate because you rotated your tv? no.

the kind of answer a generous math teacher might give half a point for. at least you did better than saying B. but not by much.

But it's not a screen, there is no barrier releasing light.
You rotate a doorframe and the light wont suddenly rotate around.
Anonymous No.720156617 [Report]
>>720156267
the portals are ellipses, so they have a definite orientation. each region on one ellipse is mapped to the corresponding paired region on the other ellipse.
that means if you rotate one portal, what you see through the portal also rotates.
it's like a texture map.
Anonymous No.720156665 [Report] >>720156878
>>720156267
the portals literally teleport things, including light.
>You rotate a doorframe and the light wont suddenly rotate around.
a door frame is not a teleportation device connected to another door frame that may have different rotation.

you could approximate a door frame using two portals by attaching them to each other closely and making sure they are rotated the same way, except facing opposite directions. then they would behave exactly like a door frame. the world's most expensive door frame.
but the portals in Portal DON'T have the same rotation as a rule. you can put them on walls that face different ways, you can even put them on slanted surfaces. normally in these discussions it's presupposed that one has played Portal or Portal 2. have you not?
Anonymous No.720156878 [Report] >>720157218
>>720156665
Except portal portals doesn't move you from one space to another they simply make a path between them.
A wormhole is not a teleporter.
Anonymous No.720157142 [Report] >>720157293 >>720158174
It's obviously B.

The eyes of the observer, the observer and the ground (visible through the portal) are not in motion.

In A, it implies that the whole world spins while entangled with a portal, which is absurd.

Portals cannot stick to moving surfaces anyway.
Anonymous No.720157218 [Report]
>>720156878
factually what they do is teleportation. that is how they work in-game. Source engine does not support "worm holes".

putting that technicality aside, what's the relevance of the theoretical explanation behind the game mechanic? you can see, plain as day when playing the game, that portals do in fact ROTATE how you see their content. again, have you not played the games?

There is no way to make a moving portal simulator as a moving portal is a paradox that moves the entire universe and doesn't move it at the same time.

M8, your problem is with portals existing at all; being able to entertain part of an impossible hypothetical and then dismissing part of it on the grounds that it's impossible is just moronic
Anonymous No.720158467 [Report]
>>720158072
that implies that what is inbetween the portals is one giant tube which can't be the case because the path between the two portals is not a straight line. if you go by the theory of space/time folding then if one portal were to rotate then there would be points where half of the portals were covered by eachother and it wouldn't make sense for a portal to be able to rotate at all
