I thought 2018 was decent but Ragnarok was a mess. It was obviously meant to be a trilogy which got compacted into 2 total games, which is why the story/gameplay is simultaneously overstuffed/padded while also feeling rushed. It had some good moments/performances, but I really disliked Atreus. From a technical standpoint, it's incredible. Beyond that, not so much.

Got it as a gift from my wife's bull and I have to say, I had a pretty good time with it.

In terms of story no. This game should have been called out similar to veilguard when it comes to the story and characters.

Atreus and the black "giant" were the worst parts of it by far. I got up to where Kratos and Freya were going to meet the dwarf chick to craft the infinite macguffin, then just lost interest because I couldn't bring myself to care due to Atreus being such an unlikable ass. On top of that, the black chick feels like they are actually rubbing her being black into your face (not in a sexual way).

Every single one of these games sucks. I don't even know what to call them. That weird, over the shoulder "cinematic" camera angle, the bizarre running and attack animations that give the impression you're permanently glued to the floor. The damage indicators and other shit necessary to communicate to the player what is happening instead of just letting the camera breathe and do it for them. The reliance on big budget, on cut scenes, and a massive focus on mountains of atrocious dialogue. The "hub" based "open world" that they never get right.
What are these games even called? GoW 4 likes? This like a whole new supreme shit genre. God of War, Banishers, Flintlock, that pajeeta game, they all look and feel the same. It's awful. It makes me fucking angry.

I see this take every once in awhile, but I don't get it. Story wise 2018 was better, but most people don't care about story. Gameplay for Ragnarok was way better. More builds, more uses for weapon switching, another weapon, and you have the blades early on. Quadrupled boss variety, more mook variety overall. What's wrong?
