Not very much. It's the new entry in the Digimon Story series which is more JRPGs featuring Digimon characters. The last set of Digimon Story games seemed to be a bit like Shen Migami Tensei and Persona 4 and I think this one will also draw comparisons to those games.

Though I'm not sure which ones Patamon and DemiDevimon are supposed to evolve to.

Where's agumon

Patamon was my favorite as a kid, but there are so many shillmons with him and DemiDevimon as potential bases that I'd go with Gomamon just to get some early game variety. It's probably not gonna be easy to go from Ikkakkumon to Beelzemon, even though I know I'm gonna end up with Beelzemon Burst Mode in my final party again anyway.

Are they fucking high? I remember Cyber Sleuth releasing for something like $40 and constantly going on deep discount, which was part of why it got popular in the first place. And of course they're doing the $120 edition with a season pass bullshit, as if anyone's really gonna replay a JRPG because they added five Digimon eight months after release. I'm still waiting for my DBZ Sparking Zero DLC characters, by the way. I've got some serious doubts about getting this game now.

Time Stranger is the first real game Digimon has had made native to non-shit hardware in like 20 years (Survive notwithstanding)

They're generally not connected outside of the two Cyber Sleuth games and some references to the first Digimon World in Next Order. You can start anywhere you want. But keep in mind that Digimon's always had an identity issue and damn near every game in the series is a different goddamn genre. Digimon World is a Monster Rancher game with an open world to explore, but Digimon World 2 is a mystery dungeon game, etc. The Digimon Story games are fairly standard JRPGs and nowadays any game with Digimon World in the title is gonna be a throwback to the original v-pet raising sim, but definitely do your research.

If you're just a general JRPG fan, I'd say that starting with Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth is a safe place.
