Alright but what if I told you it's an old ass open source game that still sees quality updates in this year of our lord 2025?
interactive cockpits are planned, does NMS have that?

True, but this is a fantastic game. I'm shitposting with one hand while jerking off with the other all from the luxury of my space minivan on cruise control while making the hour long approach in real time down to this shit podunk space town to drop off some fucking teddy bears or i don't know what. This place is just a giant rock twice the size of Earth but without any cool earth shit, just boring ass rock so I don't know why the fuck you'd want to live here. I do know I can fly all around it in full newtonian glory with orbital mechanics, can you do that in NMS?

Boomer was a good insult because it aggravated millenial/Gen-Xers who weren't actually baby boomers. Calling is an abbreviation of "uncle" is a significant step backwards in your generations insult game. Step it up, zoom zoom.

I haven't played SC and I'll give you Starfield's space combat is ultra basic, but what kind of mongoloid thinks E:D has worse spaceship gameplay than NMS? I'm not even an E:D fan, haven't really played it in years, but it's head-and-shoulders over NMS. Whatchu smokin, fella?

Looks like we came in about 1000km from the city, somewhat close. Always a good choice to fully slow down in the upper atmo of these larger bodies before coming in close to the surface, the gravity will get you

interactive cockpits are kind of pointless without VR. Does this have VR? using a mouse to tap buttons and switches is lame and it makes more sense to have custom controls mapped to your kb/flight-stick.

Aw hell nah. I literally bought that shit the day of release (Spore) and it was the biggest lie sold in all of gaming history, for me at least. The only remotely fun feature was the creature creator, and I got my fill of that months before release anyway (they released it ahead of time for free to people to play around with).

Watch some of the pre-release marketing/tech demo gameplay and compare it to release... they simplified and retardified it into a completely different game. I'll never forgive Will for that one, he put Todd to shame.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tpK1rZ3tkU4

They literally went from having real-time creature combat with attacks that utilized the unique physiology of the lifeform you made as well as physics, and dumbed that down to basic bitch shit that makes Runescape combat look like Mount & Blade. Abullshit as a lot of NMS marketting was, it was nowhere near as fraudulent was what Firaxis pulled with this shit. I was there, zoomie, don't whitewash this shit.

A fellow Pioneer enjoyer? On /v/? I honestly never would have thought. I've been posting about it in Linux threads for a bit but figured it would remain obscure even compared to Oolite.

I feel silly to admit this but I'm still learning to fly properly in the game. I got used to the autopilot for long trips and would play it as an idle game when doing things like studying since it's so slow paced. I'd like to figure out how to actually do combat missions to spice up my space trucking.
Anonymous No.720179282 [Report] >>720184293
>>720177352
Hell yeah!! Yes it feels very rare to find fellow enjoyers of these niche space games because there's no /spaceg/ on /vg/. I also love playing it a bit like an idle game / like one of those truck sims, even on manual flight. In systems with a lot going on like Sol or Barnard's Star you can play on real time for ~30-40 minute interplanetary flights, just bumping the stick every now and again to stay lined up, drink your beer, whatever. Sh*t's the comfiest thing I ever experienced in a game. Major pro tip: If you hit escape while burning then release your thrust key it will lock the input. Handy for going hands free during long burns because the cruise control isn't always great.

Not OP but I feel bad for zoomies that get filtered by irrelevant minutia like that, that we blessed uncs are unbothered by. There's so many great games out there with absolutely atrocious UI (either due to age or just incompetent design), your tastes are essentially limited by a handicap.

There was some other Elite clone but I can't remember its name. Think I tried Pioneer back in the day and it wasn't that great but it's been 17 years since, might try it again.

Speaking of comfy trucking, I really like that it's pretty easy to add your own music to the in-game playlist. Grabbing some nice freeplay songs for extra atmosphere makes the game even more pleasent to play. I usually use ambient and downtempo stuff to keep with the theme of the game.
Yeah, you can just mute the in-game sound and play from a media player, but having the music in-game playing in the appropriate areas make it more immersive.

>Can I play multiplayer online?
>There will be no multiplayer. This does not rule out the possibility of minor network features, but multiplayer as it is commonly known is not compatible with the core mechanics of Pioneer. See for instance Network features, and ServerAgent for more, or our dev forum here. Pioneer will never have multiple players in different ships, as this is incompatible with time acceleration feature. For comparison: the Elite Dangerous dev-team chose to prioritize multiplayer over Newtonian mechanics, and make it more like the original Elite, we choose to stay true to the core concepts of Frontier Elite II, which is Newtonian mechanics, with time acceleration.

>Can I colonize planets, build space stations or conquer the universe?
>No, these are out of the game scope. While the game universe might not stay static for the duration of a game, the player can not generally influence major events.

>Can I walk around space stations and planets?
>No, you cannot exit your ship. The ship is always your avatar. The development team does have aspirations to push in this direction, for future versions.

>Can I build and control a fleet, or a factory, or run/own a station?
>No, this is not on the agenda, and none of the developers are motivated to push for this, but who knows, perhaps in the future, some skilled developer, who knows how to implement this in a way that makes game play interesting, joins the dev-team. However, we are currently planning to have mining machines (like in Frontier Elite II), and ship system management (heat, energy, repair components, etc.) on the agenda.

Literally why wouldn't I just play Elite Dangerous or X4?

Newtonian Flight model.
Personally I don't mind the smaller scope in this case. That's already a pit fall for space games in general. This being a FOSS hobby project, having too much scope can negatively affect the core gameplay.
That said, I would like more in-atmosphere interaction outside of docking at cities.

Looks like trash, even considering NMS came out 10 years ago. If you want a real space sim RPG, the only correct answer is Starfield.
Starfield has everything NMS has but does it 10x better. And it also has a functional RPG game where you embark on an actual journey with interesting characters, not like NMS where you just point at rocks lmao.

I've had my eye on flight of nova but I'm going to let it cook longer, they will need to add some good procgen stuff to make it really playable but the flight mechanics look great
>>720184381
The old school version is based too this is what I played as a kid (and ragequit bc i crashed every time) and the OG Elite II
>>720184230
You're probably thinking of Oolite anon, which I have never played. I believe there is much more of a combat focus whereas pioneer is more about the exploration and landable bodies (like elite I vs II the games they are based off)

That's a good idea, never thought of doing that I usually just listen the music or something else. One thing I wish I knew how to mod is some of the decals and such (that cover up planets while the hud is active for example), but I haven't figured it out.
>>720183080
X4 looks very solid I got really close to getting it, but I guess it's almost too much I don't want the empire building parts just want to fly and live on me ship. NMS would be pretty perfect if it was just a little more hardcore in the right ways, planets should feel massive and dangerous so spaceflight has the stakes and scale it deserves. Elite II and Pioneer really nail that like no other I've played (at least in an rpg and not a pure sim like kerbal or those apollo landing sims.)

I agree with you anon, the settlements and missions are samey and I find myself wishing for a little bit more spice or some thread to chase, but at the same time the mission selection is varied enough just everything is that sort of vanilla procgen so each type is always the same. Definitely the sort of thing where you have to make up your own plot and kind of contributes to the loneliness of the game. The fun for me is in planning the routes and the actual spaceflight+experiencing the visuals. The missions and silly station names are just barely enough of a whiff of lore to sell the immersion. Would be cool to see more story elements sort of like they have in Ostranauts, I think that's something the devs want to do.

i can't remember the name of the last open sore game i played that i enjoyed, it was made by a collage or university, and it was basically a spore clone, but the creatures looked like that meme slug monster that's drinking from the sink, now it's stuck in my mind

The assets are easy to access in the Data folder, so you should be able to find them with some digging. Lua is used for a bunch of elements in the game, so getting some knowledge in that can help with modification. I'm hoping to play around with that at some point.

if you're not capable of adding any soul to your UI and can only make it the most basic garbage possible, then I will not play your game because this is a gauge of quality
good games already had good UIs back in the 90s, you have no excuses, faggot
