Chances are it's a game you're not interested in
when it comes to my friends, it's either
1. game that was cheapest from my steam wishlist
2. game that they want to force you to coop with them
3. game that they thought was cool and wanted you to play it so they have someone to talk about it with
1 is probably the worst, because when it's super cheap and I haven't bought it yet, it's because I either didn't care enough, or lost interest
2 can be great, or it can be horrible, if it's a game you absolutely loathe, like Borderlands or something
3 could be chill, but very likely will lead to endless "did you play X yet?" "What did you think about Y?" "I LOOVE Z, *proceeds to spoil everything expecting you to already be over that point*
I dlike my friends, but those that give gift games instead of gift cards are almost always trying to force their self interest, opinion or suggestion on you.
I would almost say I'd prefer to get no gifts, than gifts that have a "catch"
