The main crew don't feel like a team compared to the IT.
It feels more like "Joker and the hanger-ons".
Honestly in Royale I got the feeling that if Joker was given this choice:
"Would you rather rely on the Phantom Thieves, or Sumire and Aketchi"
He'd choose Sumire and Aketchi 8 times outta 10.

Seriously if Joker was to disappear the others would rarely hang out. Whereas if Yu left you could tell the rest of the gang would still hang out.

I dropped it after about 20 hours. Just couldnt get into the main plot and that was that for me. The entire "rewrite people" thing was...eeeeh. P4 had a stronger thing going on with the murder mystery.

The IT are assholes to each other as well. Yosuke is treated as a punching bag literally and verbally by his team, Rise is a cunt to the other girls and characters in when it comes to Narukami and in general, Kanji gets shit from Yosuke and the girls, etc. The Phantom Thieves are assholes themselves though with that shitty moment with Ryuji.

The plot is just too childish and generic. Minimum cohesion between the team members that doesn't involve Joker. The characters are sometimes too retarded in the usual "japanese plot" way that makes it very boring. The final boss itself (not royal) was the most generic threat, ever.

This. The IT had their squabbles but there was still a consistent sense of camaraderie. Their arguments actually felt like friends bickering, not like barely-tolerant coworkers forced onto the same team. The Phantom Thieves, on the other hand, feel like they’re one disagreement away from blocking each other on LINE. And the Ryuji train scene? Still one of the coldest moments in the series. He gets absolutely dogpiled for being right.

Yosuke was a good character for the MC to bounce off of
Kanji was a solid character overall
Rise was a functional girl character (battle analysis, lovey-dovey while retaining independence, etc.).

I feel the male characters were better than the female ones in Persona 4. They simply had more going for them beyond appealing to the MC.

it should have been joker dumping ryuji after their initial escape, then joker + morgana going in and saving ann. Those 3 team up and save yusuke and then later futaba. no makoto because they aren't caught thanks to ryuji. No haru because no shoehorns. also akechi should've been less obviously the bad guy and never a party member
make it joker, morgana, ann and yusuke 5 man party no switching needed no extra characters

It has a lot going for it but I never felt like I was on an adventure. Just watching a sub par movie. I want to like it, but it's just boring to me.
I always love the idea of JRPGs and then get filtered 10 hours in. Other than Yakuza which actually makes me feel like I'm there, running around, killing time, meetin people on my own time.

Are there other jrpgs that feel like that?
