I'm 30 and haven't bought any game in the last decade that wasn't indie either. I just play older games when I want and forget about the hobby when I want to do something else. Modern games are 99% trash now and you can get all of the literal legends of the medium for free on emulators or very cheap on steam so there's no reason to sink money or time into a live service skinnerbox with gaming characteristics that will get cancelled in a couple years anyway.

There's a lot of things you can say about games, but the time investment compared to books or movies or television is huge. Even a whole season of television can probably be knocked off quicker than even short Role-Playing games. Say your RPG is only 20 hours. That's 40 episodes of TV. Plot's probably worse too. Enh. Probably not worse than Soap Operas though.

But literally no one can watch the entirety of The Bold and The Beautiful. It's just not possible.

Steam deck is too big to be viable as anything but a glorified home console. Switch 2 has no games and will only have 100$ games later so Switch 1 with a modchip is still the superior choice for at least a few more years. You can run docked mode and 60fps with overclocking and an entire library of 5th gen games on one.
