If the story was as good as people claim, then it would be a book on store shelves and on the New York Times Bestseller list.
Ironically, being a book would also give it more potential to avoid the kind of criticism normalfags level at porn VNs because literature is allowed to have those kinds of content and get away with it for some reason.
If Murray Massa was directly converted to a novel as-is, it would be laughed off the shelves because it's garbage and cannot stand on its own two legs as a literary work. It isn't as well-written as people claim -- it's only "well-written" by the incredibly low standards of other VN sludge.

The only time that video games start to break away from literature as a medium and rise above its storytelling potential is when interactivity is made an explicit highlight rather than a mere formality. Most VNs don't allow you to interact with the story in enough meaningful ways to transcend the limits of traditional novels, and are further limited by their need for visuals and audio elements.
Even a mediocre adventure game like picrel or Shenmue is an order of magnitude greater than "high tier" (lmao) visual novels because these take greater advantage of the medium rather than using it as an excuse.
