I would say that Gilder is wrong here, because the sunset never really changes. It's always the same sun.

What? The sunset is a visual phenomenon, it changes constantly based on seasons, distance of the earth from the sun, atmospheric factors, visibility, and anything that could affect our perception of it
The sun itself doesn't change, the sun setting is purely from our perspective on earth and it always changes
That's like saying if I take a coin and hide it form you, I didn't really hide it because it still exists and didn't transform into a different shape

Also you could argue he may not even be talking about it changing, just there being another one, since there's a sunset everyday, even if it looked exactly the same it would not be the same one because it's a repeating event
