Last TLA pvp night was pure kino. Everyone rolled up with their cursed-ass party comps, couple dudes running full summon nukes, others sweating with psynergy spam. I just slapped together some half-baked setup and somehow landed a clutch Eclipse into Catastrophe that made the whole room pop off.
Best part was all the dumb hype moments. Like someone pulls a revive at like 1 hp and suddenly the match flips, or a random djinn chain deletes half the field. Whole place yelling like it’s EVO grand finals but it’s just a bunch of nerds on GBAs lmao.

I 100%ed it late last year and while I won't say it's beyond terrible I will absolutely say it's mired with issues across the board. I actually do have a bunch of notes I took playing it if you want things that are more in-depth but the general issues are:
>It's got three points of no returns meaning if you do not guide game it it's impossible to have all the Djinn and quite a lot of permanently missable equipment.
>It's easier than even GS. Dullahan is so easy that as long as you know his moveset it's not possible to die to him compared to TLA, especially TLA Hard Mode.

I also 100%'d it within the last year or two. The main thing I remember was missing a encyclopedia entry even though I was being extremely thorough because the item in the encyclopedia has 1 singular location to obtain it from in the game and it has to be gotten between two events that are extremely close together.

I think it was the Dream Leaf encyclopedia entry in Saha Town or Kolima Village. It's on one random town NPC between either opening the swamp, finishing the swamp and picking up the item right after you finish the swamp, which you would never bother to go back out and check every NPC's dialogue before doing. I ended up stubbornly speedrunning the game up to that point again just to get the encyclopedia entry because I'm a completion autist.

I tried playing Dark Dawn a year or so ago but the dialoge is so terrible. It's a huge cast of party members all saying literally the same thing the entire game.

Golden Sun RELOADED romhacks are more difficult and actually make Piers usable for endgame since he's a warrior stuck with mage classes in the normal game and mages suck. Jenna has the opposite problem of being a mage with warrior classes and she's already broken as fuck and remains broken as fuck even in the romhack.

It's likely the Hermes Water in Kolima as you have to do a certain event inside of a tree but immediately after you start the event and before you use an item you have to backtrack to a random tree in the town to speak with an NPC in said tree to get the entry to unlock. I believe the Dream Leaf and a few other entries tied to Kolima do get removed after you heal Trent and the other tree, but there's ample time to get those and they're kind of hard to miss. The Hermes Water entry is insanely specific.

I just went through the whole series in a row. I didn't even attempt Dullahan in DD without the turn order simply because I spent an hour on TLA's and was getting nowhere and I refused to summon rush so I learned about it. It still took me another hour and a half to get a successful run because even if you know the turn order that doesn't stop you from being two-tapped or making dumb mistakes.

For DD I knew about the summon thing because people here complained about it years ago and it was the one thing I remembered about DD so I was at least aware it was going to happen and prepared for it accordingly. Compared to TLA it was a joke, and I wasn't going to summon rush to begin with so having him use summons against me wasn't really going to happen often outside of mistakes or me getting greedy. I did use the occasional tier 4 like Thor because I was able to set it up prior to the summon steal or because of setting up, but it was a fairly chill battle for the most part.

Why do retards always ask for a HD2D remake of these games? The GBA games were literally the opposite of HD2D since they had (pre-rendered) 3D models in 2D pixel art environments. HD2D is 2D pixel art in 3D environments. It makes zero sense to have a 3D model of Isaac rendered as a GBA quality sprite running around a fully HD world. Just have an actual chibi 3D model in the same style as the originals for the overworld and a full scale model for the battles.

Maybe people are put off of 3D models because of Dark Dawn but that game looked like shit because it was a rushed unoptimized DS game where the models had about 20 polygons each with 8 px by 8 px textures. It didn't look like shit because Golden Sun just doesn't work in 3D somehow.

if you do link arena (whether its the gauntlet or pvp), then swapping classes become relevant as certain mono element classes are hot ass and you don't really want dead weight. for the main story, all they really encourage you to do is just swap around for whichever one of whirlwind/growth you don't have at the time since all of the other core field spells are easily accessible.

No it's not. The dual element classes are mostly better. The real "efficient" way to play is to make 2 berserkers and 2 sages and murder everything with strong weapon attacks (especially unleashes) + impact + party wide healing. Really the djinni system just filtered people who didn't like to experiment. I had a lot of fun trying different combinations and accidentally discovering cool shit like Ninja and Samurai.

I think it's just the closest style people can name. If you just take Octopath's environments (without the excessive effects) that would be a good match for GS's environments, but I have no idea what to even call the style of the 3D models.
Personally I think most HD-2D games are just cheap garbage, but the style can work if the devs put the effort in. Original GS had a lot neat little things in the presentation, I'd at least be curious what they can do with a modern 3D toolkit.

Because having to shift Djinn every few minutes to actually do elemental puzzles is cancer and 99% of puzzles require base monotype Psynergy, not Growth. There is not a single enemy in any of the three games that requires you to even swap out of monotype at all because the buffs/debuffs are beyond unnecessary and unlock in monotype anyway.

There are 3 paths for a remake
Path 1 is similarly to Super Mario RPG remake you get basically the same visual design but the game is now rendered in 3d, camera angles stay the same.
Path 2 is you get a super charged version of the original, made in similar fashion to Sonic Mania, there are more animation frames, a slight increase in resolution, slightly more advanced visual effects.
Path 3 is you get an HD2D remake, this is the most likely

That's not the most efficient way of playing either. The Sage line is hot ass for a decent chunk of GS1 because they have huge deadzones within their learnsets and the game's slower pacing means that you actually feel it.

GS1 has Douse/Frost via item magic and you have to swap to a class with growth for those puzzles. If you want to be lazy and never ever switch, just leave Ivan in his base class and have Isaac/Garet/Mia exchange their djinn.
GS2 doesnt have the items but the water dungeons are some of the earliest ones you can do when Piers joins and then you dont see any again for a good while. They make you swap around for Whirlwind/Growth as usual.
DD is like the 1st game where its fairly easy to get access to field spells for puzzles. You can definitely experiment with classes here.
Also, cross classes generally have superior stats and spells across the board. You'd notice the difference if you let Isaac/Garet/Tyrell/Matthew bum around in the Brute line for a while as its comically minmaxed towards attack and your unleashes end up hitting harder than they would in the base classes. There are pockets of the game where spells can be competitive too. Like DD where they give you an endgame fire and water spell early on.

Again, there is zero reason to experiment at all as there is not a single enemy in any of the games that justifies it let alone DD where you can sleep mashing attack and beat everything but the side bosses. Nothing requires buffs or debuffs that the Djinn or late game monotypes don't already provide you, tons of stuff has Break even half way into the game, Unleashes do absurd damage and are the main playstyle in DD, etc.

The only things that justify it are the romhacks and you are going from already rolling through the game while sleeping to hydrogen bomb vs. coughing baby when you shift classes while inconveniencing yourself in the overworld.

It's a little more complicated than that. GS was supposed to only be 1 game, but they literally couldn't fit it all onto a GBA cartridge, so they split it in two, added a year to add some more stuff and released GS TLA a year later.
Then, they basically went into Mario Sports title mode, where they made a bunch of those and there were rumours of a new GS, but nothing concrete.
Then at the end of the DS's life, when everyone was starting to think about the successor to the DS, they decide to announce GS DD.
According to the Takahashi brothers, they got drunk one night and came up with the story for DD while hammered.
They then took that, built a team and got to work.
I'm not even making that up, that's what they said happened.
They also said they considered GS 1 and 2 to be prequels to the story they were going to start with DD.

If you're going to swap for growth, then you might as well just leave the boys there since you get double revives and a faster/stronger Isaac + Garet.
Another combination with multiple field spells is Base Ivan, Water Isaac, Mars Mia and Earth Garet. That has everything except Frost. Add the Jewel when you get it early in Altin.
In DD, since you always have access to field spells, an effective combination up until when sveta joins and kicks out amiti/rief is water karis, fire matthew, wind tyrell and earth on amiti/rief. You have answers to every single puzzle and stronger matthew/tyrell for literally everything (not like they need it but fire matthew has insane sol blade potential later on lol).
