The remake is inferior.
The remake removed the depth out of reloading. In the original reloading at the wrong time could mean death since you were stationary and couldn't cancel out of it. It created a relationship of risk amd decision-making in the gameplay. But thanks to the remake allowing you to move out of harm's way even while reloading, there's no longer any decision-making associated with reloading. You always move while reloading. Why wouldn't you? It's now nothing more than a momentary halt in the action.
There's a webm of MatthewMatosis playing OG4 and it shows him dying because he reloaded when chainsaw guy was right in front of him. If this was the remake, he would've just moved out of the way and suffered no consequences.
