I did play HR a decade or so ago but I forgot the story.

If you never played HR shit's going to be doable since they kinda half assed a few characters and things due to the multiple endings and a VA going trump mode.

There is no reason not to play HR Directors cut which has all the DLC given how cheap it is and it's arguably a better game.

I will be playing it on PS5 as I got it free on PS+ but the SP DLC is not on sale right now.
I will wait for it to be on sale though as it goes for less than 2 and is 12 not on sale.
I did play HR on PC though.

I assume the save data doesnt transfer anyway, like people I killed or saved in GR are alive or dead in MD.

All three are standalone, launched from the main menu as self contained experiences.

Desperate Measures is straight up cut content repackaged as DLC. It's short, not terribly exciting and there's literally only one way to get the "good" ending where you learn what you went to find out.

System Rift is set in a new area of Prague and a new, kind of dull office building. Pritchard's in it. It's alright but it connects to an event in the main story that's completely unimportant.

Criminal Past is set in an aug supermax, a story that takes place before the events of the game and completely unrelated to them but told after the main game is over. The longest and best one if you're willing to put in the time and effort.
