Yeah. I played it like that. Just saw other players as random NPCs.
Strange thing about this game is because you need to accept PvP the community turned into one of the most pleasant and helpful communities I have ever seen in a MP game.
You create a house, set up stores, sell all the loot you find, people often buy it too as end game players cant be fucked to loot so they buy scrap and stimpaks.
Then because it has a small cap limit (iirc you can only hold 30K caps) there is no price gouging and you can get end game legendary weapons for cheap.
Also the end game area where the most OP enemy spawns that everyone nukes for the event, people dump their weapons and armour for anyone else in the suitcases of the train station near the area. You can hang around and get kitted out in no time (though things might have changed since I played as lots of DLC has been released)
Some random guy made me a full set of power armour for free.
Obviously dont expect a quality RPG like NV. Plus it has fetch quest tier shit but if you want a massive fallout game that will have you travelling around a big map, this is it.
Only real issue is that they jew you out by limiting your carry capacity to encourage you to buy the subscription, but fuck that shit just play without it, dump shit in your home and dont hoard much.
