Maelle can die from whatever. Maelle can step two centimetres outside from her world getting destroyed by her asshole fake brother whom she trusted three different times despite his lies after she specifically told him it will mentally scar her for life if he does it because she has lived in that world just as long as she has in the real world, and then proceed to hang herself because everyone she loves has been killed in front of her because she thought Verso was trustworthy.
Maelle states this so bluntly. She wants to choose how she dies, she wants to live her life with the people she has in this world, hopefully in the process finding a way to make Lumiere continue to exist elsewhere.
Verso disregards this and states she is just having a woman moment and she should just go out and paint more. This is in spite he knows for a fact - and the player knows - that Alicia's whole life in every instance of her existence has suffered by others making choices for her and disregarding what she feels by putting her on a pedestal.
No matter how you cut it, even if Maelle IS having a woman moment, what Verso is doing is disregarding what she wants, removing her choice in the matter exactly like Renoir did to Aline, and forcibly taking away the people she loves from her rather than trust she may change her mind at some point along the way - for no reassurance whatsoever that she will not just kill herself out of grief in a different painting.
>uhm but this painting is speshul because it has Verso's soul piece in it
Sure, and he's killing that too. Why in the world would destroying every possible trace of something someone loves help them move on in a world where they are crippled since the fire and depressed from the moment they were born?
