I was indifferent to GoW Thor's design. I just didn't like how he was hyped up at the end of the first game but in Ragnarok he's an errand boy for Odin and gets killed off in the most nonchalant way. It was also stupid how the company wanted to aim for "historical accuracy" when designing Thor and Odin but want to make Angrboda a black woman.

Left came from a franchise with a track record of cool god designs. GoW4 went with a bunch of hicks and no one expected the follow up to be any better.

It is not historically accurate that a mortal person would be fat, but Valhalla is a place of plenty for strong men who worked up appetites rowing ships and cleaving heads. It's not unlikely that some would bulk up like a barbeque loving American if they had 2-18 beers to go with fish every night for a couple centuries, but if any Norse God were to have their body changed by this it would be Odin, as it is his hall and Thor wasn't explicitly involved in it.
