It's too grimdark. Dark moody locations work when there's a couple of them in the game so there're contrasting with the usual stuff. But when the whole game is just gloomy and depressing then it's just annoying.

Hollow Knight main theme was going deeper and deeper underground. Silksong inverts that with pilgrimage to the top.

The world is still universally depressing and dark. It worked in HK because of its theme but feels forced in SS.
