You sort by creation date, skim the catalog for any threads you might like and after that you only need to look at the first couple of rows of threads every time you refresh.
Sorting by bump order has the threads jumping around all over the place and it's sad to see people missing things they might like just because it wasn't bumped at the right time.

creation date makes the discord marching orders way more obvious too. seeing two almost but not quite identical threads being made about the same not-even-remotely topical subject 2-5 minutes apart becomes a regular occurrence

I've actually seen this a lot, two threads about the same not-often-discussed game but one is positive about it and the other is negative. Really strange.
