WuWa has been sold from minute 1 as "Genshin for haremfags" and heavily focusing on female characters vs Genshin's omnipandering. This focus on waifufags can bring good money, but has the risk of attracting specially toxic gachaniggers that make death threats when its implied that their waifu isn't "pure" or is seen talking to a male that isn't the MC. The focus on female characters instantly alienated a large amount of potential homo/fujo/husbandofag playerss.
Anyway, the rabbid hate for Lingyang began when the game was in beta state. In the first betas, Lingyang was a furry boy named Awo with a cocky attitude that offended gachacel self-inserts (originally everyone was rude or cold towards the player for being a stranger, this was changed in the final game after people complained about it). Lingyang was eventually redesigned into the silly non-threatening catboy you love. However, that wasn't enough, and people only hated him even more after Kuro games made a huge mistake during the first days of the finished game. When the finished game was released, it had various performance issues among other stuff. The studio eventually fixed them and gave players a chance to instantly roll for a character for free as an apology, but a bug in the code accidentally gave Lingyang a much higher chance to be rolled than every othercharacter, resulting in a large percentage of players getting him instead of their waifu and "bricking" their accounts. To make it worse, Lingyang has a very weak meta and bad moves compared to other characters, which enraged the people who got him even more.
After Lingyang, who was an initial character, Kuro hasn't released another "medium male" character, only tall men that everyone assumes are gay and lolis, probably in fear of receiving similarly negative reactions.
