Starcraft 2 really fucking let me down with how WoL starts. Jim all alone in some fucking random isolated building pining over a woman that doesn't exist anymore and has been replaced by a being he swore to kill.
I played the beta and followed the development and was praying we'd still get starcraft: ghost, and i was so fucking hyped. I played the campaign for sc/bw a half dozen times at least.
And they threw characters i had never seen before at me, motivations that didn't need to exist, and an overall bizarre cranking up of the "it's like space texas" elements and the satirical shit.

You didn’t really miss out, to be honest. I played on PS5 and despite putting about 80 hours in and finishing it, it just wasn’t very good. The performance there wasn’t great either and it felt like a deeply half baked and unfinished game. It actively feels like it is missing large parts of questlines and story that would make it make sense. It is clearly a game that the devs completed less than half of and just gave up. I can’t think of any other game that felt so strangely incomplete.

I like it as a little sandbox game where I can roleplay and make my own stories. Like I had set the goal of becoming Number 1 on the tourney leaderboard and beating the current Number 1 in combat. Problem was he was in a Battanian prison because he was a Vlandian and they were at war. So I spearheaded my own operation to break him out and it was a huge success. Because not only was the reigning champion in that prison, but so was Emperor Lucan. He invited me into his faction after I rescued him and it ended up leading to a series of events where I failed upwards in multiple sieges, all coming to an end when I led my own army against Caladog and executed him. I had so much fun playing out my own little storyline though, that I kind of knew nothing I would ever do in that game would reach those highs.

I like it for what it is, but its not something I ever revisit.

It feels *so damn good* to play, and then you hit that brick wall where the story just evaporates and you’re left wandering like they forgot to finish the last two chapters. Same with MGSV - the gameplay's smooth as hell, the world feels lived in, and then Mission 51 never comes and you’re staring at a glorified PowerPoint slide wondering what the hell happened. Both games are like test drives for masterpieces we'll never actually get.

I psyched myself up so hard for Starfield. I thought Fallout 4 was much worse than Skyrim and Fallout 76 was dogshit, so I was well aware Bethesda had been on a downward trajectory, but my faith in Todd blinded me. I got the game for free because of some AMD promotion at the time and my hype was so much that I couldn't even wait for AMD to give me my free key and bought he $90 early access edition.

Game ended up being absolute trash. I actively avoided doing side content and by the end I was rushing through everything just to finish it, felt like a genuine chore to do anything in the game. Never played it a single time since it launched, even when the DLC I already paid for with my $90 edition came out, I had zero interest.

Don't think I've ever been more disappointed in anything in my entire life.

And sadly, Todd's magic will probably work on me again when Elder Scrolls 6 comes out.

Digimon Survive. I was there for they whole hype train. From the reveal, to the radio silence, to release day. And holy shit that game fucking sucks. The reveal showed us a Digimon SRPG with choices and consequences. Dragon Quest Monsters Dark Prince. Besides the story, it was a downgrade from the 3DS entries in most aspects especially the post-game content. Breeding for the more elite monsters is getting way too cryptic as well, which has been an issue since Joker really. Monster recolors everywhere which is very tasteless for a monster collecting game, that should only be tolerated for the Slime family.

Dragons Dogma 2 pretty much ruined my opinion on Capcom for a long time. Didnt even bother with MH Wilds.

Chrono Cross, because Chrono Trigger was my favorite game and I was so incredibly hyped for a "sequel" but it ended up being... not that. I was also tired enough of the Resident Evil series that I paid no attention at all to 4 when it was released, only to have a great time with it once I finally tried it.

It was an interesting concept, I've always thought that F2P honestly needs to be the way forward for fighting games to have a healthy playerbase, WB has a wealth of well-known characters to fuel interest in the property. I'm not sure I've ever seen a publisher so thoroughly waste a game's potential. Comes out to 100's of thousands of concurrent players on steam, interest dwindles quickly because the UI was a nightmare, all of the characters were floaty and felt the same, they decided to monetize by locking all characters and running a fucking rotation like League of Legends, and 20 dollar skins were the last nail in the coffin. Then as hype was bottoming out they closed the servers, added a few characters, released it years later without fixing any of the reasons people left in the first place and now it's dead. This is what happens when a big publisher pays a bunch of suit-and-ties with no experience or interest in video games to develop one as a means to squeeze cash out of whales.
