RTS is about dynamic war, and there's nothing dynamic about farming the map for 45 minutes and then headbutting eachother until one side RNGs their way to a win

i don't hate RTS, all the faggot things about meta and early rush are only possible due to poor balancing or intentional choice, it's not a genre problem
but yeah city builders are great

Turtling guarantees you aren't going to be able to out economize an opponent though.
Turtling means the opponent can capture an expansion without contest.
Turtling was always a strategy for people who didn't really get the game. In every RTS. A pure defensive strategy just prolongs your defeat. It only works in higher level play by saving some units for a turnaround. Hoping the opponent accidentally walks into a defensive setup and loses more tempo than you do, so you can then immediately swing into aggression.

A static target is an easy target. Most games have some sort of long range attacks that can safely engage your defense with no fear of retaliation. If you're overfocusing on defense it means that you're not focusing on offense or building a mobile force that can do something actually.
Units are almost always more cost-effective than turrets or walls.
If you're not actively trying to cripple your enemy, you're crippling yourself due to him having free reign. Just like resources not spent are resources wasted.
You gain more by damaging the opponent's economy than by sitting on your ass.

I never understood why faggots complain about aggression in a strategy game with the single goal of destroying your opponent. I mean, I get it if you want a chill building experience where you get to move around your army dudes. Just fuck off and play civ or total war or some single player RTS, maybe dick around with bots. Everyone on multiplayer is trying to kill you because that's how game work. It's not supposed to be chill.
