In all my gaming life since the 90s, I've never seen a game make people so happy. Or play with their emotions in such a powerful way.
There was Life is Strange which had some impact but nothing comparable when you think of Clair Obscur Expedition 33.
Many people like to see the reactions of streamers when they finish an act in this game, which is my case, and I can see that the streamers are really moved by the scenes.

A game that will leave its mark on history, just like Zelda Ocarina of Time.

Too bad the gameplay is shit and drags the game down.

Like it or not, LiS sold well over time and did well thanks to word of mouth. It was one of the first games to have very active forums / websites for people's reactions. I still remember that.

It is a great game and we haven´t had a J´RPG this good in years. It´s certainly going to be remembered as one of the top representatives of these times but i don´t think it will have the same impact as Ocarina of Time.

Games evolved by leaps and bounds during the age of the original Playstation and the N64 but it´s safe to say the last few generations have seen a deceleration on that growth and diminishing returns. Not just graphics wise, we are talking about a standardization of production models, engines and genres and a far more conservative industry.

Expedition 33 is certainly beautiful and, if stories are to be believed, that´s because it was built with passion and by taking risks. But off course taking risks doesn´t mean the same now that i meant in the 80´s and 90´s. Back then taking risks meant try or invent stuff that didn´t exist in any other game, it may work, it may be a disaster. Singularity and risk.

These days, rather than reinventing the wheel, taking risks means betting on existing things others consider detrimental like, for example, turn based mechanics. For all it´s accomplishments i can´t say Expedition 33 reinvented anything, it just took everything JRPG fans loved and poured it into a single game. It´s beautiful but not revolutionary. At least not if you´ve played games like Legend of Dragoon or Shadow Hearts.

Its a RPG with a top tier plot and characters that actually feel real. Its been a long time since we had a plot of such high quality. Exploring the world and plot of e33 remind me the feelings I had playing the first final fantasys as a kid.
