they didn't ban social media. they banned western propaganda outlets, which of course is a big no-no for glowies, so they activated their regime change assets. all of these groups are funded by NED, its subsidiaries, or others associated with CIA activities.
a similar thing happened in Georgia (the country, see protests) when they passed laws banning or requiring the disclosure of foreign funds that media companies were taking. they also passed laws similar to those in the US which require foreign agents to register. of course the king of hypocrites didn't like this at all since it would expose all the influence ops they were doing in the country. you'll notice that this rash of color revolution preludes suddenly happened in countries around russia and china after it became clear that nato and trump are losing the real/trade wars. you'll notice that the protest leaders always speak pretty good english.
to the extent that groups in any country can and will have legitimate grievances with their governance, the answer is never to set fire to your own country, just as it was not to storm the capitol building on jan 6. but even the capitol rioters didn't set the place on fire. the last time that happened was when the british did it in the war of 1812. the degree to which people are willing to destroy their own country is a function of how much money they are receiving from outside of it.
