Sorry to hear that. For me, the characters are a large part of what makes an Atelier game enjoyable for me, and I find myself getting attached to over 50% of the characters from Arland games whereas most other entries I end up liking maybe 3 characters at most. Of course this is a subjective point, but I just couldn't bring myself to play Ryza 3 since I didn't give a shit about the characters the first 2 times, so why would I play a game with them a 3rd time? Plus Ryza's design in the 3rd game is kinda shit.
I can understand being stressed out at time limits, but honestly the Arland time limits are pretty lenient, making it very easy to at least get the normal endings on a blind playthrough. You really have to intentionally try to play bad to get any of the bad endings. Time limits are just there to make resource gathering and spending feel like they actually have a point.
At the very least, I wish games without time limits had a higher difficulty. Even on hard mode when playing recent titles, I find myself almost never having to make anything to play through the story beyond some low effort bombs and the game's designated AoE medicine. If I'm going to have all the time in the world to play through the game, give me a good reason to stand in front of my cauldron every now and then before the postgame.
