I don't really know what the deal is with the developer cartridges. But the dev kits do have stickers on them that clearly say that they are property of Nintendo, no resales. I bet in the contracts it states that Sega of Europe has to return them back to Nintendo when they are done with them. Not dump them. This also happened when Sega of Europe moved to different offices. So, apparently they were dumping off old furniture and other things that they didn't think had any value to them. That x.com post was made back in July 2025. It did take a while for someone to notice. Given that Sonic Stadium is a well known publicity account for Sega (and Sonic), it could have been someone at either Sega or Nintendo was alerted to this 'haul'.

Currently the police force is teetering somewhere between "quite corrupt" and "not corrupt but holy shit they arent very good at their job".

I'll give you an example:

Essentially they want us to recall a (potentially innocent) man into custody so they don't have to expend resources to send officers out looking for him to bring him back and question him.

If he turns out to be innocent, they dont care. Meanwhile we just swooped a man off the street and sent him back to jail for 2 weeks just to make their lives easier.

Thats just one personal example but you get the idea

I once was stealing the newest Nintendo game from the mall. Two cops were pursuiting me, but it was fine because I was faster. I slid beneath under the closing security doors, leaving the cops outside. But then, just as I though I have made it, a very fat bearded cop came from across a corner, eating a donut. I slammed right into him and he pulled a meanacing electric baton. He took a swing at me but I grabbed his arm, redirected his swing and knee'd him into the head. He was almost done for, but then he did an unexpected backswing with his baton, striking me into the head, shcking me and sending me down. When I woke up again, the Nintendo game I have stolen wasn't in my pocket anymore. I was seething with rage. Thanks to this dumb cop I now couldn't play my favourite new Nintendo game for free anymore.

It's Sonic The Hedgehog 4... would anyone at Sega of America even care at this point? Possibly only if they had plans to port the game again to newer hardware... but again... it is Sonic the Hedgehog 4... Nintendo dev kits are a little different. Nintendo wouldn't want anyone to reverse engineer them, and they do contain copy protection bypass keys.

It has nothing to do with the age of the contents on the carts and everything to do with the carts being proprietary Nintendo development hardware. I have no idea what Nintendo's policy on development carts are, though. I think this has more to do with the dev kits and the carts being a casualty. I'm sure the UK Police were just ordered to grab everything.
