The game has a pretty indepth crafting system for what it is, which can help you get really strong early on. I don't remember off the top of my head though. I remember it involved quickly getting your hands on some level 10 turnip seeds because the crafting system gives you a bonus for using level 10 items and turnip seeds can be gotten very easily. You'd have to google it and you'd have to ask yourself if you even care enough to go that hard. I don't think you need to do that just to beat the game.

Keep up with the request box. The main requests (not the radiant ones) unlock many of your options including new crops and flowers. Gear primarily determines how well you'll do in combat, so get to crafting. There are a lot of esoteric mechanics, and the way you're supposed to learn about them is by talking to the random tourists. For example, you can buy the magnifying glass which lets you check the stats of your soil, but you can also upgrade your hoe with that magnifying glass, so you can check your soil health while you work. Try to keep some untilled space on your field so you can have a supply of lumber and stone. There's a cave south of town that has giant chickens, with a secret room on the right containing fodder. You can use that cave to make growing fodder a non issue for when you have monster pets.

early on these bonuses, especially if you can find 15 level 10 items to make something with, are much stronger than anything else you can make. Of course getting level 50 isn't something you'll do early on without grinding specifically for it either.

I wasn't even going to try Guardians of Azuma after the fiasco that was 5 but I downloaded it on a whim a couple of days ago and I'm actually having fun. Sure, it barely feels like a RF game in some aspects but at least the result didn't put me to sleep like RF5. The only problem is the mouths look weird as fuck (both their placement on the face and the animations).

Honestly people only say that because they got burned by either the shitty shift to 3D (huge empty areas), the lag or the gay stuff. I'd say 5 is an ok game that's a bit of a step down from 3, all of the core mechanics are there and the characters are fine if a little shallow after what we got from 4, but I dropped the game around the final boss part because it was so fucking laggy. I'm completely fine with 20-30 fps but it ran more like 10 most of the time, 5 in the first few seconds after you leave a building, and every loading screen was like 10 seconds long.

I guess this is a minor spoiler, but she should have been more involved. It makes no sense the way it's tied to her backstory and she has no involvement. Not even voice lines as she WAS in my party. There's a lot of things that are seriously lacking, not even compared to the best in the series. For one thing, the different villages make it very annoying to keep warping around and feel isolated. The lack of interiors also make the world seem less alive, where as in the past, you got kicked out of people's homes until you got their friendship high enough. You used to get things like the rich family living in mansions, and it added so much flavor to the world. Both immersion and RPG elements are much less of a focus.
Plus the constant villager management made me dread going to bed.

The only problem I have with Azuma is that it really suffers from not having a hell mode, there's literally no reason to interact with the mechanics, skill tree and crafting since you can just equip a bow and destroy everything from 10km away, no grinding required.

The same sex marriage was implemented so hastily they literally forgot to add a flag to be able to disable same sex event if you didn't want to see them.
So if you have some bachelor on LP7 and you get too close to their event trigger you'll be forced to do them. This wouldn't be a problem if they were easily avoidable, but as you can expect, some of them trigger at places you need to go everyday like the inn, stores, etc. So you're pretty much fucked. Your only option is never talking to bachelors to keep their LP low or just go through them as fast as possible.

This is honestly the reason why player sexual characters are such a bad idea. It basically just makes you not interact with same sex characters because you don't want to trigger the gay shit, all to avoid content that only a very small percentage of players even want to see. The thing is, they could easily just ask the player at the beginning if they are gay or not, and then just play it out that way but it's probably considered oppressive to have to say you're gay or some shit.

Which wastes less time so that can & should be seen as a positive but hearing random npc townfolk in RF talk about some strange ore & gems then finding said ore & seeing the fun shit it does to weapons was pretty exciting.
RF4 is peak discovery and player experimentation.
Its seriously fun knowing that even what looks to be generics can hint at some hidden mechanics. Like how theres a pokemonish EV system in place if you decide to play it solo + monsters.

You can feed them items, and actually thats the best way to do it.
Feed them their own creations for the max love you can earn per day.
Feeding them items can actually raise their resistances + stats.
Fodder within the bin is just the "we will eat this every day that we go without eating from player's hand to stave off happiness dropping".
Your pets naturally lose HP (not max) over the course of like a week then get frustrated if not healed or given a break.
Some times I just pick up extra crops and feed everyone that while I'm building up fodder in the bin.
