Occasionally you may need to do some fiddling to make older games run.
Contrary to what console fanboys blow out of proportion most modern games just run and only games that may need fixes or fiddling are bad ports on release.
Also because there are many different GPUs as opposed to just one on consoles most modern PC games require a shader compilation once per run or driver update.

Literally, who asked? it is an issue whether you ignore it or not is up yo you but there's no denying that.

While playing on consoles is feasible just by sitting in a couch and holding a controller from a distance. Now you could do this on PC but you have to buy more accessories to make the experience as comfortable as consoles.
>Prone to more crashes and bugs
Nvidia keeps shitting out shitty drivers recently. Every UE game needs to poorly compile shaders which doesn't happen often in consoles.

PCs are superior to consoles in most ways but they are unfortunately not retardproff.

Aside from the price, it's just not and never will be user friendly like consoles, and that's a huge turnoff for a lot of people.
All kind of driver issues, hardware conflicts, random shit that can appear seemingly out of nowhere due to a random update that take hours to troubleshoot. PC enthusiasts don't even think twice of this because they are so used to dealing with this shit, they don't even notice or recognise it. These people fail to understand that normal people will NEVER want to deal with any of this shit, not even a fraction of this shit just to play games.

Why then, in the real world application, is it in an 1800 dollar build? thats what a 5070 comes out to in real terms. Because a 120fps device(PS5) comes out to 549.

It's not foolproof. A little expensive to get started, especially when you're starting from zero and need to get monitors and a mouse and keyboard. Aside--games crash, the PC will crash, and sometimes that will be incredibly inconvenient. You'll have to tinker around and sometimes things will just be out of your hands. Plenty of games on Steam, for example, that you can buy--but don't work without some DIY. Like Max Payne. It doesn't require a herculean effort to get games going but it's not plug and play either.
and of course on a console, games will crash sometimes too--but about 1000x less. Placement and access is key with a PC, too. I built my first PC (still going strong baby!!) in Winter 2020 and for years had it at a desk in my basement, and I did use it--just not much. It sucked to be in my basement. I moved my PC into my living room in like, December 2023 and that's where things really took off. I ended up putting a bluetooth card in my PC too and ran a big long HDMI cable under my living room floor to the back of my TV, which I thought was the magic bullet at first--and my kids do use my PC like that sometimes--but at this point I only really use that to watch movies without having to bother with troubleshooting Plex. It took me years to embrace it as a gaming device but now it's the only thing I ever use, really, and it's great. Between Steam and GOG and a MAME romset and Duckstation and Retroarch, god it's a video game paradise. But I also have worked off this PC at multiple different jobs and have gone to college for a long time on it. I also write on it, do photoshop projects, video, some audio--there's 10,000,000 things to do with a PC. If the ONLY thing you have in mind is games, idk, it's still a strong maybe. But that's just the icing on the cake. I can't imagine I'll ever go back though. Not without its faults and warts, but it is awesome in the end. My 2070 is still rocking and rolling.

It's not. A midrange build with a 5070 is going to be like $1000

Midrange by average, I guess, but I don't really get the point of cheaping out on every single component except the GPU. I'd sooner buy better components and put a GPU that is a gen or two older in. Plus there's no way that pricetag is thinking about monitors and KB+M, which is a few hundo even if you don't buy anything special.

Bad performance because the devs don't know what specs to optimize for because they don't know the exact specs your PC will be using in relation to knowing the exact specs consoles will use.

The PS5 is just a souped up PS4 Pro with a fast SSD in it. It's really nothing special. If you have anything past a 2060 with an SSD, you're at PS5 or above.

After you build a PC you stop playing games and end up just browsing the web mostly and watching youtube videos. I went from ps4 and playing with my friends all the time cause they were all also on ps4 to building my own PC for the first time and now I just shit post on this website and watch YouTube most of the day. I also pirate stuff and occasionally use stablediffusion but mostly just 4chan youtube and other random computer stuff. I barely play games anymore

$1000 assumes not going ghetto but not maxing everything out. Like an i5 +650w psu + 1tb ssd.
Monitors are way cheaper than tv's so...
if you insist on a mechanical keyboard, good news, chinks made those cheap too.

I have a 2070 Super and my PS5 is definitely a cut above, but it's very negligible. Ultimately I'm pitting a machine that is pretty good at running Spider-Man 2 against a machine that is pretty good at running tens of thousands of games.

Sure, that's just kind of a weird comparison. An unbelievably bloated console-first FPS game runs better on a PS5 than on a GPU from 6 years ago. I play Call of Duty on my PC sometimes but it's hardly my only concern. And it works fine. Getting brand new big stinky AAAA games to run at crazy high ultra settings on PC is for dolts who are addicted to spending money, and an exercise in futility on top of that--let me build the worlds most current and OP rig so I can brute force running poorly optimized games. I treat my PC like I treat my 2006 Mercury Milan with 215K on it: Poorly. I'm running both of these babies into the ground. With a smile on my face.

1. Windows. Linux is getting better but is still only an option on game basis, some games will run like shit or not at all no matter what
2. The money barrier, at least when you start
3. Knowledge barrier, is amazing to see how a lot of retards, either poor or rich, get filtered when a game doesn't run well ootb or when they have to deal with GPU or controller drivers
4. Bad ports

Not that guy, but lutris is useful purely because it's trivial to add new entries to it by just dumping a yaml file in a folder and then it can automatically generate shorctuts in Steam for big picture mode
So those emulator shortcuts are likely more for convenience of management than anything

It really doesn't though. You can build it yourself. Put fun stickers on the case. Get fun wallpapers. Get a fun keyboard--maybe even with custom keycaps! ooh boy. Get a mouse pointer set that looks like Pikachu. Run Otaclock. It's very comfy. My PS5 is the same as everyone elses, right down to the avatars Sony has had since the PS3. Haze guy, anyone? Plus my sticks drift.
What gamepad do you anons like for your PCs? I really like my PS4 pads but sometimes I think about getting an Xbox controller just so all the glyphs are correct all the time. I never had an Xbox so whenever a game is like "Press B!" I'm always confused.

It's weird how fickle PCs can be sometimes. When I built my first PC I troubleshooted endlessly because shit would crash all the time, especially Cities: Skylines. Nothing I did seemed to work. but over time....things seemed to smooth out. Once in a while a GPU update would be really shit though and fuck everything up.
