Outrun. R4 does have a better soundtrack tho and the intro is still the best racing game intro even made. I liked the small team stories in R4 too.

RR2 isn't actually a sequel, it's just an upgraded version of 1, they used to slap 2 on that in arcades back then. The actual mainline RRs are RR1, Rave, Rage, RR4

I think the gameplay is shit but the music is fucking amazing, best soundtrack in videogame history.

Discovered R4 back when CTR Nitro Fueled was big and I would constantly listen to the soundtrack as I crushed online lobbies. Couple years later finally got around to emulating it and was blown away by how all-around amazing (and challenging) it was. Beat the story mode several times before discovering you have to clear it a gorillion times over with all the different manufacturer/handling types and making very specific placements for true 100%, which just unlocks a goofy little Pac-Man shaped car. Still, every now and again I get the itch to play it some more.

There is only one ridge racer girl for me and she looks sexy in black.

Revolution is essentially just an expansion pack for RR1.

I remember this one site that makes custom merch for niche games like Flower, Sun and Rain made some really nice R4 merch though it was only available for a few weeks. Still regret not copping a shirt to this day
