Tim Sweeney confirms that its game developers fault for making unoptimized games
>Metal Gear Solid Delta is the latest Unreal Engine 5 game to be suffering from big performance issues
>It appears as though any fears that you'll need to upgrade to the best graphics card from our buying guide to play these new games are unfounded, and instead, there is simply more work to be done on optimizing games for low-spec hardware.
>Speaking on the problems after Unreal Fest in South Korea in an interview translated by Clawsomegamer, he states "the main cause is the order of development," and further clarifies this by saying "many studios build for top-tier hardware first and leave optimization and low-spec testing for the end."
>In short, developers are too focused on appeasing gamers with high-end gaming PCs or consoles, and everyone else is suffering as a result.
>In the meantime, Sweeney confirms that more support is coming to developers using Unreal Engine 5, including "automated optimization across devices" as well as "expanding developer education" to ensure that optimizing early "becomes standard practice."
>Games such as Fortnite, Valorant, and Dead by Daylight have also made the switch seemingly without issue, so the main concerns appear to be with games fully developed for the first time using Unreal Engine 5.

he is technically correct. if the game has perf issues they would have known about it early on in their internal builds, but chose to continue developing on UE5 and released it that way, unoptimized. a competent dev would either have started refactoring code early on to address UE5-specific architecture, or just abandoned UE5 and migrated down to the mature UE4 or other engines, instead of hoping that updates might fix the problem automatically.

what you're seeing is the equivalent of casual retards who have auto-updates turned on and chide others for using "old" versions. these are the people who "upgrade" without a reason.

It just coincidentally affects every single game that uses Unreal 3-5 for the past twenty years. This sadder than people that try and excuse the pile of shit that Skryim and Oblivion runs on.

Is flexibility a synonym for unoptimization tolerance? Because an all-purpose engine still has to be optimized.

Epic is a multi-billion dollar company and doesn't need YouTubers to "fix" their engine. They should focus their efforts on an open source 3D engines or write their own engine

I don't usually play devil's advocate.... but Tim might have a point here.

Yeah. They have all this technology that can take a game and make it look better on stronger hardware. What they should be doing is starting from the most basic, most optimized version they can, because then all the AI shit can produce a ton of extra frames, resolution, textures, lighting, etc. Instead they make things at the highest possible settings and tell the AI to work backwards, taking a game that already has high hardware demands and demanding more from that hardware to run on... weaker hardware.

You mean "shifts the blame".
You keep trying to post this over and over to clear your name, Timmy, but it's not going to work. When almost every single Unreal Engine game since the launch of UE3 has performance issues, you can't just blame the people using your faulty tools or ticking off every random box that you gave them that lets them take a shortcut.

>optimizing early
This won't change anything. UE5 gets used because they can import assets and slap in the game mechanics and deliver that turd. Most devs don't touch anything underneath the editor.
If they did they would actually bother shipping with at least different config files for hardware profiles based on amount of vram vut they're not even doing that.
Fuck you Sweeney. That guy is a giant liar.

We lost the technology due to everyone relying on UE5, having Modern Game Devs that no longer care about optimization(which in the video they clearly say it) or modification of the engine, and also the fact the priorities for companies is no longer about Stylized Worlds and Characters, high degrees of interaction, but just cost cutting to where we hire the lowest dev team available at a cheap price and throw a product out there and tell everyone to consume.

P.S Fuck TAA in UE5 go to SMAA and MSAA.

I will always give Threat Interactive credit on being vocal at the very least about how bad the Anti-Aliasing is when the default is TAA, when many others exist for better Anti-Aliasing like SMAA, MSAA etc and actually detailing legacy issues that need to be fixed. He is a necessary evil in my book because if he did not call it out. Tim and UE5 devs would just sit on their hands and do nothing including the Modern Game Devs.

Give money to small devs
It's not like current devs don't want to make good and fun games, they're just not allowed to because of shareholders.

no shit, UE5 gives you a dozen shortcuts and game devs take all of them.

why work on your lighting when UE5 will just do it automatically? why work on different versions of your models when UE5 will just rescale the models for you? Silent Hill 2 remake had the environment being constantly rendered in the background behind the fog for no fucking reason despite that being counter to the point of the fog in the first place. It's genuinely insane, this engine gives devs extra shit to work with and they immediately tank its reputation because all they use it for is to take detours and quick solutions and offload their dogshit work onto the consumer

No shit, only retard thought otherwise. It all depends on how skilled the developers using the tool are.

You can make dogshit scupultures with a chisel and absolute masterpieces with the same tool.

But don't worry the retarded faggots on /v/ will claim that MT Framework was an epic engine and RE Engine is trash, even though, RE Engine is just an updated MT Framework that they renamed to RE Engine and now they are updating the same RE Engine to be called RE-X or some shit.

Stutters are not a problem in this game, it's just that it's unreasonably demanding on GPU.

You people need to learn the difference between stutters and game being demanding.

I'm just going off of what people who have gotten to test it have said.
Obviously most of the performance-centric reviewers who have gotten a chance are lying shills who downplay the issues in modern games but they lie consistently across the board so you can still reasonably use it as a comparison point. The gamescom demo for f was running native 4k with stable 60, we don't know the hardware but even a 4090 was getting 40fps lows in 2R so it appears to be a better optimized game based on everything we've seen.

He's right. They make the games 500GB and pack in too many textures. It's also Nvidia's fault for supplying cards with low VRAM while devs are doing this. The engine is fine.
Anonymous No.720371436 [Report]
>>720347049 (OP)
Hasn't TI sort of proven that the engine is at fault? aside from just the developers being at fault? it seems to be the case of both. The core of its poor optimisation is with lumen/nanite. If Delta stands out as being the worst optimised of them all it's still technically apart of what was already unoptimised in the first place. Nanite is very slow for rendering in general and incredibly unoptimised in UE to such a significant degree. It doesn't necessarily mean UE was great before any of this either. We've known for UE to run like shit for a while now in which those scenarios didn't use lumen or nanite.

At this point it's an anti TI poster astroturfing to look like a 'fan' by continually shilling about donations. Smear tactic where he plays dumb about it not being a smear tactic.

Anon fog makes things run even worse because you're still rendering everything while also putting a fog filter in.
Anonymous No.720374119 [Report]
>>720347049 (OP)
I don't think he's wrong in this case. EE33 ran very well and it used Unreal 5. The problem is they had actual people that knew how to optimize the engine, whereas most companies outsource this shit to other smaller companies (read Indian coding sweatshops) that very clearly don't. Engine optimization is a lost art not because people stopped making their own engines, but because people stopped caring whether their tools worked well or not.
Anonymous No.720375463 [Report]
>>720369657
Then I dont know but with forced camera or fog you can pull out a lot of tricks to make it run great while also look spectacular. If devs cant even pull that off anymore they are truly better replaced by AI slopcode
Anonymous No.720375523 [Report]
He's actually right. Fortnite runs at 144fps on everything. Or it did last time I played it when it had only been out for a year or two, idk if its performance has degenerated since then.

>But don't worry the retarded faggots on /v/ will claim that MT Framework was an epic engine and RE Engine is trash, even though, RE Engine is just an updated MT Framework that they renamed to RE Engine
Yes, MT Frameworks was good and RE Engine is shit. The difference comes down to what kinds of games were popular in each era. No one gave a fuck about open world games back when MT Framework was being used and it was really good at what it was made to do. RE Engine is being used in an era saturated with open world games and it's insanely bad with open world because it's meant to be used for linear, corridor games. Since the engine is good at what's popular now, it's shit. Yeah, the original MT Frameworks would be shit if used now but defending UE5 by saying a two decade old engine would be shit today is retarded.
