Bottles, winetricks and heroic launcher. GoG games are pretty easy to use in Lutris but I the install scripts have never worked for me. Most Steam games just werk, and in the rare instance they don't, you can download community proton libraries. It's not exactly what I'd call "good", but it's usable. I'd rather deal with Troonix than have Windows randomly shit itself because it doesn't like my Crucial P3 Plus.

I just swapped to linux a couple months ago
The only actual learning curve for getting almost all of the games I play to run, was learning about the difference in drive formats.
I:E, to play steam games on linux you just need a drive thats formatted to ext4 instead of ntfs or something else.
Thats a setting you can easily change in various distros' built-in disk management tool.

I've been meaning to switch to linux but haven't yet so I'll be sure to update you about whether it's good or bad for gaman eventually, stay tuned

I have a 4070 Ti Super and I don't understand what the problem is.
The only thing I've struggled with is sharing my screen on Discord because X11 doesn't play nice with the proprietary Nvidia encoder, so Discord doesn't recognize it. But I do that maybe once a year so I'm not bothered.

Games run just great. No driver issues or errors and performance is as I'd expect.
I use Manjaro Cinnamon edition.

I think my only issue with Linux gaming so far is modding can be annoying. Especially the games that rely a lot on mod managers or installers.

I recall having some issues with Frosty, ME3Tweaks and Fluffy. I'm sure you can get them working but kind of annoying having to go through all that stuff, especially since I like to mod most of my games. For Mass Effect I just modded it on Windows then played it on Linux. Worked flawlessly after that, but still annoying.

To my surprise game development on Linux has been effortless. It was one of the main things keeping me on Windows. I expected Unity in Linux to be a broken mess but it worked perfectly. Meanwhile on Win11 I can't even open Unity or Visual Studio anymore without getting a blue screen.

Realistically, what can be done on the Linux side for compatibility? Because there are some fundamental differences that can't be helped and is more on developers. Not everything mind you, but definitely certain parts of it. It's the same with cross compatible Windows and Mac programs, a developer had to account for differences.

Honestly it's easier than the switch. Linux and windows are identical on the hardware level, so only the software part need to be handled when porting, and engines already do that. Porting to the switch you have to optimize the game a fuck ton, downscale all textures and models, shit like that, but porting to Linux is as easy as pressing the "compile for Linux" button assuming your engine supports it, which at least unreal, unity and godot do.

I opened the steam page of like 10 games I like playing and all of them only state Windows 10 or Windows 11 in system requirements part. Why are you trying to run windows games on a different operating system? You might get banned on steam or from the game's anticheat or end up with stuff not working right in the game or having bad performance. Stick to common sense. You could get a steam deck and use linux that way, since some games get bugfixed by valve to work for specific linux packages frozen by them in an atomic sense for a specific hardware that can sometimes make them perform as good or better than running on general windows computers.
