Metro's Ranger mode is the most fun difficulty in the game, I just wish the later entries didn't restrict you to 2 guns because that's boring

MGR on revengeance difficulty, you deal an absurd amount of dmg when doing parries. At the same time enemies are super aggressive and almost 1-2 shot you with every attack.

I still find KH2's critical mode to be the best example of a higher difficulty well done. Getting way stronger offensively while also having to actually avoid taking damage in order to not get 2-3 shotted. Plus getting higher drop rate on items so you don't have to farm as much is nice.

Enemy accuracy doesn't change either though, Stalker's difficulty scaling is no different from other games
I think people got meme'd into this false idea of "master = more realistic damage" because enemy's high damage output changes your playstyle from running and gunning ignoring damage, into playing the game more tactically and going for more head shot
The game is still easy on easy mode, hard on hard mode though

merciless in royal gives you a 30% exp and money boost over hard, equivalent to easy, which wildly snowballs out of control. add on all the other ways royal tilted the game towards the favor of the player, and it's real funny how they made merciless easier than hard.

Hardest difficulty for me is, and I think I'm remembering this correctly but feel free to correct it, but DmC: Devil may cry, the shitty reboot game, had a difficulty where you die in 1 hit, and everything else has max level HP, early devil triggers, and more enemies in groups. You basically had to do the whole run hitless. It's either DmC or dmc4, one of them. It's been a decade or so.

By the time you get to the nobody enemies, you can't avoid getting one-shot, especially against the girly ones with the pumped-up kicks, the ceiling spear things, and the archer ones when you accidentally ignore the reaction command. The combo mechanics look silly there. I've died one-hit-away from beating a few bosses because Sora just stood there on account of only having a 3-hit combo rather than a 4-hit one. Heck!
