Dragon's Dogma 2 was one of the biggest disappointments I've ever had in vidya, and I'm 36. I very rarely get my hopes up for anything, and wasn't expecting a perfect game, the first one was a flawed gem after all. But even with that all said, it still fell well short of the game I wanted it to be.
The biggest sin I think was how boring it was. I'd much rather they tried a bunch of fun, jank new systems and went nuts, even if some of them were busted.
Also this is a personal gripe but what the fuck were they thinking with the balancing? Magick Archer is so stupidly OP it might as well be cheating, not only is it the strongest class with no real weaknesses, it also has access to the single most broken spell (short of explots/bugs) I've ever seen in any game: Martyr's Bolt. What the FUCK were they thinking with Martyr's Bolt? Shit can literally 1 shot dragons.

The board has been hyping the second game for about 10 or so years, constantly citing the powerpoint slide of the game concept Itsuno showed on the GDC presentation that one time. Things were further amplified with the fact that the man managed to ship DMC5 with relative success; most anons thought he'd finally be given the blank checks from Capcom to do what he wanted. The hype was amplified even more with Itsuno vaguely talking about how there's much more to the game than what was shown in the previews. And with that, the rest is history.

DD1 was a solid foundation for an open world ARPG but then they forgot to put in any content. You get a grand total of TWO dungeons and some copypasted packs of monsters sprinkled around an otherwise empty world.

It's just that it's DD1 but less.
DD1 is still good and it didn't offer anything new when people replayed DD1 a bunch of times.
Also in DD threads people talked about all the shit that was planned for the game. They had a lot of ideas that were scrapped. So fans expected at least some of those ideas to be used for a new game but no, it was just DD1 again.
That's where the disappointment from fans come from
