Origins was utter trash, and worse than even the fucking Homocoming.
It's clunky, fugly, terribly written mess, that also completely nukes the entire lore of the Team Silent's games if taken as a canonical entry of the series. It also was the earliest example of "The Movie" cancers seeping into the franchise.

Personally, I prefer 2, but yeah, there's an argument to be made that 1 is the best one. 3 isn't bad but it's in many ways just a weaker retread of 1, that's my whole point.

I had a massive teen-crush with 2 when it came out and most of the 00s, and I still adore the game. But the more I replay them, the more I realize how much better design GAME the SH1 truly is.

The pacing is stellar, "level" variety is great, there's way more optional exploration in the town segments (that are bigger than 2's tiny South Vale area), and the endings actually require you to go out your way and piece together various clues to be unlocked.

I also find 1 to be way more scary, on top of being actually decently challenging even on Easy mode. Its only real downside is that the puzzles do not change depending on the game mode.
